The best medieval games with dedicated servers are Mordhau, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Wurm Unlimited, Valheim, Vintage Story, Myth of Empires, Conan Exiles and Citadel: Forged with Fire. They split into two camps: melee combat games where a server hosts duels, sieges and team fights, and sandbox worlds where a server holds villages, castles and kingdoms that grow for months. Combat servers start at 4 GB of RAM, and the big sandbox worlds at 4 to 8 GB.

Medieval communities lean heavily on their own servers. Duel yards have their own etiquette, siege nights need a full lobby at a fixed time, and kingdom building games only make sense if the castle is still there next week. All eight games here put that control in the server owner's hands.

Melee combat servers

1. Mordhau

First and third person melee where skill lives in feints, morphs, drags and reading the other player's swing. Big servers run Frontline and Invasion with cavalry, ladders and siege engines. Small ones host duel yards, team fights or co-op Horde. Community servers have always been the heart of the game, with mod.io maps for custom rotations.

2. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Directional melee tested against people who block back. Custom servers run Siege, Team Deathmatch, Captain, Skirmish, Duel and Battle. Captain gives each player a squad of troops to command, and Siege throws dozens at castle walls with ladders and rams. Note that the TaleWorlds dedicated server is multiplayer only, with no campaign co-op.

  • RAM: 4 GB for Skirmish or Duel, 8 GB for Siege or Captain, 12 GB for big Siege lobbies running all day.

Medieval sandbox worlds

3. Wurm Unlimited

The self hosted version of the sandbox MMO Wurm Online. Almost everything is made by players: terraform hills tile by tile, plant a deed for your village, dig mines, build roads, bridges and ships, breed horses and raise hundreds of crafting skills. It is slow, social and made to be hosted, and a group can sink months into one world. PvP servers turn it into walls, sieges and theft.

  • RAM: 4 GB for a small map, 8 GB for a standard 2048 community map.

4. Valheim

Vikings, longships and longhouses. Valheim's building system rewards medieval architecture fans, and its boss ladder gives a group a reason to keep sailing. Crossplay with Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Game Pass on vanilla servers.

  • RAM: 4 GB for up to 5, 6 GB for a crew of 10.

5. Vintage Story

Survival that walks you from flint knapping through copper, bronze and iron, with real seasons, farming and pottery. It is slower and more demanding than other block games, and medieval settlement building is where groups end up. The 1.22 update added blade sharpening and more metalworking.

  • RAM: 4 GB for 2 to 6 players, 8 GB for a modded world or 8 plus.

6. Myth of Empires

Survival in an ancient Asian inspired world that scales from chopping wood to fielding armies. Recruit and train soldiers, tame horses, build castle walls, roll siege weapons. Guilds run private servers for PvE worlds or agreed PvP between allied guilds.

  • RAM: 8 GB for a small PvE group, 12 GB for the default 25 players.

7. Conan Exiles

Sword and sorcery rather than strict medieval, but the castles, thralls and clan warfare scratch the same itch. Roleplay communities build medieval style towns on modded servers. Steam moved to Conan Exiles Enhanced in May 2026, and our panel has both Enhanced and Legacy builds.

  • RAM: 8 GB for a clan on vanilla, 12 GB for 20 to 30 players or modded PvE.

8. Citadel: Forged with Fire

Medieval fantasy with spells, brooms, tamed dragons and castles. Clans fight sieges with flying mounts, or groups run relaxed PvE worlds with boosted rates.

  • RAM: 6 GB for a small group or clan.

Running a medieval community server

  1. Pick the event rhythm. Siege nights and duel tournaments need fixed times. Post them.
  2. Write duel rules down. Duel yards live on etiquette: no hitting during bows, one fight at a time.
  3. Set raid windows on sandbox PvP. Castles should not fall at 4 a.m. Conan Exiles supports this through its raid hours settings.
  4. Back up before wipes and big mod changes. One click backups keep a month of castle building safe.

Host your medieval server

A GamezServers server gives your duel yard, siege lobby or kingdom a fixed address, always on DDoS protection, a live console for admin commands and a file manager for maps and mods. It is live in about a minute, plans change any time, and the bill can be split between up to 10 members of your clan or guild. Start with Mordhau or Wurm Unlimited.
