How to join your Wurm Unlimited server

Install Wurm Unlimited from Steam and launch it.

In the launcher's server list, find your server by name.

Select it and click to join, then enter the password from your panel if the server has one.

Create a character on the server. Each Wurm server keeps its own characters and skills.

Common problems

Players find the server in the in game server list by name. Set a unique Server Name so it is easy to spot among the other Wurm servers.

Pick your map before people settle in. Changing the World setting later starts everyone on a different world.

Clean Logs on Start is on by default. Turn it off if you want to keep old logs to look into a problem.

The beta branch is only worth it if your players also opt into the beta for the Wurm Unlimited client on Steam.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Wurm Unlimited server hosting, explained

Wurm Unlimited is the standalone, self hosted version of Wurm Online, the sandbox MMO from Code Club AB. Almost everything in the world is made by players: you terraform hills tile by tile, plant a deed for your village, dig mines, build roads, bridges and ships, breed horses and raise skills in hundreds of crafts. It is slow and very social, and a group can sink months into one world.

Because the game is made to be hosted, a dedicated server is the normal way to play it with others. Small groups share a deed and split skills between them, one player on smithing, one on carpentry, one on farming. Larger communities run full worlds with their own economies, kingdoms and events, and PvP servers turn it into a game of walls, sieges and theft.

In the panel you set the server name, password, admin password, max players (25 by default), PvP on or off, Epic mode, which world folder to load, log cleanup on start and the Steam beta branch. Epic switches to the faster Epic skill curve and the Epic cluster rules from Wurm Online. Saves and maps sit in the file manager, so you can upload a custom map or back up the world before big changes.

Memory follows map size and how much has been built more than player count. A small map for a few friends runs on 4 GB. A classic 2048 map with a community is better on 8 GB, and a large 4096 world with many deeds wants 12 to 16 GB. Choose the map first, then the plan. Memory grows slowly as the world fills with items, so check usage now and then and move up a plan when it gets tight.

Common questions

How many players can a Wurm Unlimited server have?

We start at 25 slots and you can raise Max Players in the panel. Map size affects memory far more than player count does.

What does the Epic setting do?

It runs the server with the Epic rules from Wurm Online, including a faster skill curve. Leave it off for the standard Freedom style experience.

Can I turn PvP on or off?

Yes. Enable PVP in the panel for combat, building destruction and theft between players, or turn it off for a peaceful server.

Can I use a custom map?

Yes. Upload the map folder with the file manager or SFTP and set the World setting to its path, then restart. Use a fresh copy for each new world.

Can I run mods on my Wurm Unlimited server?

Wurm server mods need Ago's mod launcher and a patched start file. Our server type runs the standard launcher, so it plays the game without mods.

Do characters carry over from Wurm Online?

No. Wurm Unlimited servers are separate from Wurm Online, and each server has its own characters and skills.

How do I keep my server private?

Set a Server Password in the panel. The server still shows in the list, but only players with the password can get in.

Do I need to own Wurm Unlimited to run a server?

No. The dedicated server is a separate free download that we install for you. Every player needs their own copy of Wurm Unlimited on Steam.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Wurm Unlimited?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Wurm Unlimited server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
