Common problems

Joining a passworded server: type /password yourpassword in the console first, then /connect.

The server will not start on a map it does not have. Upload custom maps as .pk3 files into the q3ut4 folder before setting Map.

Use RCON from in game: /rconpassword yourrcon, then commands like /rcon map ut4_turnpike or /rcon kick.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Urban Terror server hosting, explained

Urban Terror began as a realism mod for Quake III Arena and became a free standalone game. It mixes real world weapons with fast movement: wall jumps, power slides and ledge climbs. Its motto is fun over realism. Team survivor, capture the flag and bomb mode are the competitive staples, and jump maps have their own crowd. The current release is 4.3, while FrozenSand works on a new Unreal Engine 5 version.

The community is smaller than it was, but it is loyal and still busy with cups and leagues, run by groups like Flawless. Clans need a practice server for scrims, cup teams want a locked server to train on, and veterans keep a public server alive with their favorite map list. A server you control gives your group a home address that does not disappear.

In the panel you set the 64 or 32 bit build, hostname, join message, max players, starting map, game type, time limit, friendly fire, bot count, RCON password and server password. Hunkmegs sets how much memory the engine reserves for maps. Everything else, including map cycles and gear restrictions, is in server.cfg in the file manager. The live console shows kills, chat and joins as they happen.

This is a 2000s era engine and it uses almost nothing. A full 32 slot server fits in 1 GB. 2 GB only makes sense for a large custom map pool or an admin bot running beside the server, and 4 GB covers any Urban Terror setup there is. A clan can split the bill between up to 10 members, each paying their share, which keeps each share tiny.

Open the console with the tilde key and type /connect followed by your server address, or add it to favorites in the server browser.

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?
