How to join your AssaultCube server
- 1
Install AssaultCube from the official download page and start it.
- 2
Open Multiplayer and find your server in the server browser, or press / and type
connect.203.0.113.24{port} - 3
If the server has a player password, add it after the port:
connect.203.0.113.24{port} yourpassword - 4
Pick a team and a primary weapon, then frag.
Common problems
The server only appears on the public list with a valid Server Auth Key. Make one in the game with /authkey new server and paste it in the panel, or set Master Server to - to stay unlisted.
AssaultCube's connect command uses a space between IP and port, not a colon: /connect 1.2.3.4 28763.
Players on an older client cannot join a server on 1.3. Point everyone to the official download so versions match.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
AssaultCube server hosting, explained
AssaultCube is a free, open source first person shooter built on the Cube engine and first released in 2006. It is small, downloads in seconds and plays fast: realistic looking weapons, quick respawns, bunny hopping and maps tight enough that a round of CTF is all action. It still has an active community, clans and leagues, and it runs on almost any computer, which makes it a favorite for LAN parties and schools as well as old hands.
Your own server means your map rotation, your passwords and your crowd. Clans use private servers for practice and matches, friends use them for quick frag sessions where nobody has to buy anything, and some owners run a public server with a favorite rotation to keep regulars coming back. With a server auth key it shows on the master server list for everyone to find.
The panel sets the server description, message of the day, max players, admin password, player password and master server. Map rotation, game modes and ban lists live in config files such as maprot.cfg, which you edit in the file manager. Custom maps go in the server's map folder and are sent to players who do not have them. Admins claim rights in game with the admin password and can change maps, modes and kick players.
AssaultCube's server uses very little memory or CPU. 1 GB runs private matches, 2 GB covers a full 16 player public server, and 4 GB leaves room for a large map collection. Upgrading rarely makes sense for this game, it is one of the lightest servers you can run. The server also starts in seconds, so map changes and restarts barely interrupt a match night.

Common questions
How many players can join an AssaultCube server?
Up to 16. That is the limit for servers on the public master list, and it suits every mode the game has.
Is AssaultCube really free?
Yes. The game is free and open source on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android, so anyone can join your server. You only pay for hosting.
Why isn't my server on the public list?
Public listing needs a valid Server Auth Key. Generate one in the game with /authkey new server and paste it into the panel. Servers that change gameplay can also be removed.
How do I make myself admin?
Set an Admin Password in the panel, then claim admin in game with /setadmin 1 followed by your password. Admin votes pass at once.
Can I add custom maps?
Yes. Upload the map files to the server's map folder with the file manager or SFTP and add them to maprot.cfg. Players without a map download it from the server.
How do I change the map rotation and modes?
Edit config/maprot.cfg in the file manager. Each line sets a map, mode and time limit, and the server cycles through them.
How do I keep the server private?
Set a Player Password in the panel. Players add it after the port in the connect command.
Is GamezServers affiliated with AssaultCube?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated AssaultCube server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
