Common problems
Players must be on the same game version as the server. Auto update is off by default, so after a Stormworks patch turn it on or update from the panel and restart.
Edits to server_config.xml only load on start. Stop the server, edit, then start it again.
World settings like the seed and base island only apply to new saves. Change save_name to start fresh with new settings.
Server slowing down? Every spawned vehicle runs physics. Ask players to despawn what they are not using, or turn on despawn on leave.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your Stormworks: Build and Rescue server
Stormworks supports Lua addons and Workshop missions on dedicated servers. Copy them into the server's data folder and list them in the playlists section of server_config.xml.
Stormworks: Build and Rescue server hosting, explained
Stormworks is a vehicle building and simulation game from Geometa. You design boats, helicopters, planes and trucks part by part, with working engines, electrics, fluids and logic, then take them out into storms to rescue people, haul cargo or run your own operation. On a server, players share the islands, bring their own creations, crew each other's vehicles and take on missions together.
Multiplayer is where builds get tested properly. A rescue boat that one player designed gets crewed by three others in a storm at night, and you find out fast what the electrics can handle. Some groups run a career world with money and missions. Others run creative servers where everyone shows off builds and races them. Search and rescue missions with a full crew are where the game feels best.
A dedicated server keeps the world and progress in place when the usual host logs off, and no single player's PC has to carry the physics for everyone. Stormworks servers are set up through server_config.xml rather than panel toggles: server name, password, max players, base island, wildlife, despawn rules, physics timestep, Workshop playlists and the ban list. Edit it in our file manager or over SFTP.
Physics is the cost here. Every spawned vehicle is simulated, and big detailed builds hit the server harder than extra players do. A small group with modest vehicles works on 4 GB. For 10 or more players, or crews who spawn large ships and aircraft, use 6 GB. A busy 32 player server with addons should use 8 GB. Clearing out unused vehicles helps a lot.

Common questions
How many players can join a Stormworks server?
Up to 32. You set it with max_players in server_config.xml, and our file manager is the quickest place to change it.
How do players find my Stormworks server?
Open Multiplayer, then Join Game to open the server browser. Search for the server name and enter the password if one is set.
How do I add Workshop missions or addons?
Subscribe in the game, copy the item's folder into the server's data folder over SFTP, and add its path to the playlists section of server_config.xml.
Can players spawn their own vehicles?
Yes. Players spawn vehicles from their own saved creations. Settings in the config decide costs and whether vehicles despawn when they leave.
Do I need to restart after changing the config?
Yes. Save the file, then restart the server from the panel so it loads the new settings.
How do I ban a player?
Ban them in game as an admin, or add their Steam ID to the banned players section of server_config.xml and restart.
How much RAM does a Stormworks server need?
4 GB covers a small group with modest builds. Busy servers with large vehicles and addons should use 6 to 8 GB.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Stormworks: Build and Rescue?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Stormworks: Build and Rescue server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
