How to join your FiveM server

  1. 1

Install FiveM from fivem.net on a PC that owns Grand Theft Auto V, and start it once so it can set itself up.

  2. 2

Press F8 in the FiveM main menu to open the console.

  3. 3

Type connect 203.0.113.24:30120 and press Enter.

  4. 4

Wait for the server's files to download the first time. Once your server is in the FiveM server list, friends can also search for My FiveM Server.

Common problems

Server is not in the list yet

Connecting with F8 and connect 203.0.113.24:30120 always works. A new server can take a while to appear in the FiveM server list, and it only shows while the server is started in txAdmin.

Stuck downloading or "Couldn't load resource"

Big roleplay servers download hundreds of megabytes on the first join. Let it finish. If it keeps failing, clear the FiveM cache (the data folder's cache, server-cache and server-cache-priv folders) and join again.

Your GTA V must be up to date

FiveM needs a legal, up to date copy of Grand Theft Auto V for PC from Steam, Epic Games or Rockstar Games. Story mode does not need to be finished.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your FiveM server

FiveM servers are built from resources: scripts, cars, maps (MLOs) and frameworks. txAdmin can deploy a complete QBCore, Qbox or ESX roleplay base for you, then you add resources in the Files tab and start them in server.cfg. Only use resources you have the rights to, including paid ones from Tebex and the Cfx.re forum.

FiveM server hosting, explained

FiveM is the multiplayer platform for Grand Theft Auto V on PC, made by Cfx.re and now part of Rockstar Games. Instead of GTA Online, players join community servers with their own rules, scripts, cars and maps, from serious police and medic roleplay to drifting, racing and freeroam. A FiveM server is the program that runs one of those worlds, and every server needs a free license key from the Cfx.re portal.

Most new servers start with txAdmin, the web panel built into FiveM. It deploys a whole roleplay framework such as QBCore, Qbox or ESX from a recipe, then handles restarts, bans, whitelists and the live console. We pin txAdmin to your server's own ports and plan, so a recipe works without editing endpoints or ports, and your license key is filled in for you.

RAM is what you size a FiveM server by. A plain freeroam server is happy on 4 GB, a typical QBCore or ESX roleplay server with a few dozen scripts wants 8 GB, and servers with many custom cars and maps need 12 to 16 GB. FiveM runs most of its work on one thread, so fast cores matter more than many cores.

Included on every plan

Common questions

Do I need a license key?

Yes. Every FiveM server needs a free license key from the Cfx.re portal (portal.cfx.re). Sign in with your Cfx.re account, open Server Keys, generate one and paste it at checkout. You can change it later in Settings.

Can I run QBCore, Qbox or ESX?

Yes. Choose the txAdmin server type, open txAdmin from your panel and pick a recipe. It downloads the framework and sets up the server for you.

How many players can join?

Up to 48, which is the most a free Cfx.re license key allows. Plans are sized by RAM, so pick more memory for heavy scripts and maps rather than more slots.

What is txAdmin?

The official FiveM web panel. You use it to deploy recipes, start and restart the server, manage admins, bans and whitelists, and schedule restarts. Your control panel shows its address and the setup PIN.

Can I upload my own server?

Yes. Upload your resources and server.cfg in the Files tab or over SFTP. On the txAdmin type, point txAdmin at the folder with your server.cfg.

Does my server need a database?

Roleplay frameworks like QBCore, Qbox and ESX need a MySQL database, so every FiveM server runs its own, right inside the server. It starts and stops with it and is part of every backup. txAdmin recipes get its details filled in, and you can see them under Settings to import the .sql files scripts come with, using HeidiSQL.

Which GTA V version does it run?

FiveM for Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, the version nearly every FiveM server and resource is made for. Players join with the normal FiveM client.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
