What a Valheim server rental costs
Valheim server prices
Valheim is light on memory, so a rental costs less than most survival games. Starter has 4 GB for $9.99 a month, about $0.33 a day. Standard has 6 GB for $14.99 and Pro has 8 GB for $19.99.
A subscription gets 50% off the first month, so Starter is $4.99 to start. Paying yearly costs ten months for twelve. DDoS protection, backups, the full panel and 24/7 support come with every plan, with no setup fee.
Rent for 3 days, 30 days or a year
Prepaid rentals are paid once and never renew: 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. A 3 day rental is $2.50 on Starter, enough to take the crew through a boss weekend.
When prepaid time runs out, the server pauses and keeps the world for 14 days. Add more time from the panel and sail on, or switch to a subscription any time.
Which plan to rent
Starter with 4 GB comfortably handles a small vanilla crew. Standard with 6 GB suits a full crew of 10 or big late game bases. Pro with 8 GB is for BepInEx modpacks and heavily built worlds.
Renting too small is easy to fix. Upgrade from the dashboard, pay only the prorated difference, and your world and settings stay put.
Crossplay or mods, picked at checkout
The vanilla server type has crossplay on, so Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Game Pass players join Steam players with the join code. The BepInEx type runs Thunderstore mods and modpacks for PC crews.

How to join your Valheim server

Launch Valheim, click Start Game and pick your character.

Open the Join Game tab and click Add server.

Select the server, click Connect and enter the password from the server settings.

On Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2, type the server's join code in the Join Game tab instead. The owner finds it in the server console.
Common problems
Wrong password or cannot connect
The password is case sensitive. Right after a start or update the server needs a minute or two to load the world before it accepts players.
Joining from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2
Console players join with the join code, not the address. The owner finds it in the server console on a line that says registered with join code.
Incompatible version
The server updates Valheim on every restart. After a Valheim patch the owner restarts the server and players update their game.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Can I bring my existing world?
Yes. Stop the server, upload your world folder in Files, set World name to the same name and start. Older worlds convert to the 1.0 format on first load.

No. The price you see is the price, and you can cancel a subscription any time from your dashboard.
Can console players join a rented server?
Yes, on the vanilla server type. Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Game Pass players join with the join code shown in the server console.
How many Vikings can play?
Valheim supports up to 10 players per world.
Can I bring my existing world?
Yes. Stop the server, open Files and upload your world folder, or the .db and .fwl files from a world saved before 1.0, into .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local. Set World name to the same name and start. Older worlds convert to the new format the first time they load.
Does crossplay work?
Yes. Crossplay is on by default on the vanilla server type, so players on Xbox, PC Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 can join Steam players on the same server with its join code. Mods are PC only, so crossplay servers are best kept vanilla.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
