The best Valheim mods for a multiplayer server are the ones that cut group busywork without breaking the game: AzuCraftyBoxes (craft from nearby chests), Quick Stack Store Sort Trash Restock, Multi User Chest, PlantEverything, Adventure Backpacks, Epic Loot and Server devcommands for admins. Every mod on this list was updated on Thunderstore after Valheim 1.0 launched on September 9, 2026.
Which Valheim mods work on 1.0?
Valheim 1.0 brought a new save format and an engine upgrade, and Iron Gate warned it could not guarantee any mod would keep working. Many old favourites have not been updated, so the first filter for this list was simple: the mod has a release on Thunderstore dated after the 1.0 launch, checked on October 3, 2026. Before you install anything, check the mod page's last update date and its comments for 1.0 reports.
Two other rules for multiplayer:
- Most gameplay mods go on the server and every player. Many check versions and kick anyone whose mod list does not match.
- Mods are PC only. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch 2 players cannot join a modded server, so modding means giving up crossplay.

What are the best quality of life mods for multiplayer?
These remove the chores that wear a group down.
AzuCraftyBoxes by Azumatt lets players craft and build with materials stored in containers within range, so nobody spends ten minutes running between chests before a building session. Its readme is clear about multiplayer: installed on the server, it kicks clients who do not have it, and it uses ServerSync, so the server's config (container range, which items can be pulled) applies to everyone and can be locked to admins.
Quick Stack Store Sort Trash Restock by Goldenrevolver adds quick stacking into nearby chests, sorting, a trash slot and restocking ammo and food. Players without it can still join, which makes it a gentle first mod. Area settings sync from the server.
Multi User Chest by MSchmoecker lets several Vikings open the same chest at the same time instead of waiting their turn. It must be on the server and every player, and it refuses connections when versions differ.
ExtraSlots by shudnal adds dedicated slots for equipment, food and ammo, plus utility and quick slots. The server's rules (slot counts, progression, death rules) sync to players. Pick one inventory mod only: ExtraSlots, Equipment and Quick Slots, and AzuExtendedPlayerInventory all change the same screen.

What are the best farming and building mods?
PlantEverything by Advize lets the cultivator plant berry bushes, thistle, dandelions, mushrooms and tree types you normally cannot plant. Players without the mod still see and harvest what others plant, but the author recommends installing it on the server and every client for all settings to work reliably, and its config syncs through ServerSync.
PlantEasily, also by Advize, plants crops in evenly spaced rows and grids. It is a client side mod, and its readme says not to install it on a dedicated server. Each player who wants it adds it to their own game.
What are the best content mods for a server?
Adventure Backpacks by Vapok adds a catalogue of craftable backpacks that become more useful as the world progresses. It must be on the server and all players, and it checks versions on connect.
Epic Loot by RandyKnapp adds magic item drops with rarities, enchanting and a whole loot layer on top of Valheim's crafting. The author states it works on dedicated servers, with the server and every player running it and its dependencies. It changes the game's balance a lot, so agree on it as a group before a fresh world.
OdinHorse by OdinPlus adds a horse you can tame, ride, breed, armour and hitch to a cart. Its settings sync with the server.
For a bigger overhaul, Therzie's content mods (Warfare for weapons, Armory for armour, Monstrum for creatures) are among the most downloaded on Thunderstore and were updated after 1.0. They add a lot of new items, so they suit a fresh world and a modpack everyone imports.
What are the best admin mods for a Valheim server?
Server devcommands by JereKuusela is the standard admin toolkit. It enables Valheim's developer commands for server admins only, adds extra admin utilities on top, and gets its full features when also installed on the server. Admins install it on their own client, and normal players do not need it.
Spawn That by ASharpPen lets the server owner reconfigure mob spawners, for example fewer Greydwarfs near a base area or tougher night spawns. Install it on both server and clients. Players use the server's config, sent when they join, not their own local files.
Valheim admins are still set in adminlist.txt, with one platform ID per line. The vanilla commands are in our Valheim admin commands guide.
How do you keep everyone's mods in sync?
Mismatched mods are the number one reason a modded Valheim server will not let people in. The reliable way:
- Build the mod list in r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager on one PC and test it in a local world.
- Export the profile as a share code and send it to the group. Everyone imports it, so versions match exactly.
- Copy the same mod files into the server's
BepInEx/pluginsfolder, along with BepInExPack Valheim and libraries like Jotunn. - Start the server and watch the console for errors before anyone joins.
- When a mod updates, update the server and send a new profile code at the same time.
A Thunderstore modpack makes this even simpler, because the pack's dependency string pins every mod and version in one place. The full install process, including where config files live, is in how to install Valheim mods on a dedicated server.
How much RAM does a modded Valheim server need?
Vanilla Valheim is light. A few quality of life mods add little, but content mods like Epic Loot or Therzie's packs add many items and creatures, and a big modpack on a large world wants 8 GB. Heavy building in one area still hurts performance more than mods do. If the server stutters, see the Valheim server lag fix.
FAQ
Do Valheim mods need to be installed on the server and clients?
Most gameplay mods do, in the same version. A few, like PlantEasily, are client only, and some, like Quick Stack Store Sort Trash Restock, let unmodded players join. Check each mod's readme.
Can console players join a modded Valheim server?
No. Mods only work on PC, so Xbox, PlayStation and Switch 2 players need a vanilla server with crossplay on.
Is Valheim Plus still worth using in 2026?
Check its Thunderstore page for a 1.0 update before relying on it. Many groups have moved to separate single purpose mods like the ones above, which are easier to update one by one.
Will mods break my Valheim world?
They can. Mods that add items or creatures leave those objects in the world, and removing the mod later can make them vanish. Back up the world folder before adding or removing mods.
What is the easiest way to share a mod list with friends?
Export a profile code from r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager, or publish a Thunderstore modpack. Everyone imports it and gets the exact same versions.
The easy option
Our Valheim server hosting has a BepInEx server type: drop mods into BepInEx/plugins with the file manager or SFTP, or enter a Thunderstore modpack's dependency string and update the game from the panel to pull every mod in it. The 8 GB Pro plan suits modpacks, backups run before game updates and type switches, and more detail on running mods with us is on our modded Valheim server hosting page.
