Crossplay without the guesswork
Crossplay is on the moment the server is
On a self hosted server you add the -crossplay flag to the launch line, restart, and hope the PlayFab backend registers. On our Vanilla server type the Crossplay setting is on by default, so the server comes up ready for console players with nothing to edit.
Crossplay runs through Iron Gate's PlayFab relay, which is how a PlayStation 5, an Xbox and a Steam Deck end up in one world. You can switch it off in Settings if your whole crew turns out to be on Steam.
The join code, right in your console
Consoles have no box for an IP address, so Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 players join with a code instead. Open the Console tab and look for the line that says registered with join code. That six digit number is what console players type in the Join Game tab, followed by the server password.
The code changes every time the server restarts, so post the new one in your group chat after a restart or update. Steam players can ignore it and keep using the address, which never changes.
If the crossplay lookup hiccups while the world is loading, a known PlayFab quirk, the server restarts itself to retry. You will see a GamezServers line in the console when that happens, and there is nothing for you to do.
Vanilla, tuned with world modifiers
Console players cannot install mods, so a crossplay server stays vanilla. That does not mean stuck on default. Pick a preset such as Casual, Hard, Hardcore, Immersive or Hammer for free building, then fine tune combat, death penalty, resources, raids and portals from the panel. Every change applies to every platform on the next restart.
Want more resources so the console players can keep up with the Steam veterans? Set resources to More and raids to Less, and the whole crew plays by the same rules.
Ten Vikings, any mix of platforms
Valheim allows 10 players per world, whatever they play on. The Standard plan gives you 6 GB of RAM and all 10 slots for $14.99 a month, which handles a full mixed crew and big late game bases. A crew of up to 5 fits Starter at $9.99 with 4 GB.
Ports are open and every plan sits behind DDoS protection, so nobody on the crew has to touch a router. The server updates Valheim on every restart, which keeps it on the same version as the console players after a patch.

What comes set up on a Valheim server
Five platforms, one world
Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC Game Pass players share the same server.
Join code in the console
The six digit code console players need is printed in your Console tab after every start.
World modifiers
Presets, combat, death penalty, resources, raids and portals, the vanilla way to change the game for everyone.
Updates on restart
The server pulls the latest Valheim on every restart, so console and PC stay on one version.
No router setup
Ports are open and DDoS protection is always on, on every plan.

How to join your Valheim server

203.0.113.24:2456and click Add server again. - 4

- 5
On Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2, type the server's join code in the Join Game tab instead. The owner finds it in the server console.
Common problems
Wrong password or cannot connect
The password is case sensitive. Right after a start or update the server needs a minute or two to load the world before it accepts players.
Joining from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch 2
Console players join with the join code, not the address. The owner finds it in the server console on a line that says registered with join code.
Incompatible version
The server updates Valheim on every restart. After a Valheim patch the owner restarts the server and players update their game.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Common questions
Can PS5 and Xbox players join a Valheim dedicated server?
Yes. With crossplay on, which is the default on our Vanilla server type, Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC Game Pass players join Steam players on the same server with its join code.
Where do I find the join code?
In the Console tab of your panel, on the line that says registered with join code. Console players type that number in the Join Game tab, then the server password.
Why did the join code stop working?
The code changes every time the server restarts, including after an update. Check the console for the new code and share it again.
Do Steam players need the join code?
No. Steam players can keep adding the server by its address under Join Game, which never changes. The code works for them too if it is easier.
Can I add mods to a crossplay server?
Not gameplay mods, because console players cannot install them. Use world modifiers instead. If your crew is all on PC and wants mods, switch the server type to BepInEx.
Does crossplay make the server lag?
Crossplay traffic goes through a relay, which can add a little latency. Most crews do not notice it. If everyone is on Steam, you can turn Crossplay off in Settings.
How many Vikings can play?
Valheim supports up to 10 players per world.
Can I bring my existing world?
Yes. Stop the server, open Files and upload your world folder, or the .db and .fwl files from a world saved before 1.0, into .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local. Set World name to the same name and start. Older worlds convert to the new format the first time they load.
Does crossplay work?
Yes. Crossplay is on by default on the vanilla server type, so players on Xbox, PC Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 can join Steam players on the same server with its join code. Mods are PC only, so crossplay servers are best kept vanilla.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
