Outgrown your Realm? Keep the world, add room

More players online, and the files are yours.

Realms are a simple way to start a shared Bedrock world. When the group gets bigger or you want add-ons and the console, a dedicated server runs the same Bedrock game with far more control.

What changes when you move off a Realm

Realm or dedicated server: the plain facts

A Realm lets you and 10 friends play at once and handles everything for you, with no file access. A dedicated server lets you choose how many players fit, manage the files, run console commands, add behavior packs and download backups whenever you like.

Both run Bedrock, so players on Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch can all play. The difference is how much of the server you get to touch. If the group is happy at 11 and never wants the files, a Realm is the simpler choice, and that is fine.

Room for the whole group at once

Standard gives you 4 GB and 25 player slots for 9.99 USD a month, enough for a busy survival world with a few add-ons. Pro gives you 6 GB and 50 slots for 14.99 USD, for big explored worlds and crowds. The player limit follows your plan, and you can move between plans from the dashboard with the world coming along.

Split with friends at checkout and each player pays their own share from a link, so a bigger server does not land on one person.

Your files, your add-ons

Upload behavior packs and resource packs from the Files tab or over SFTP, list them in world_behavior_packs.json and world_resource_packs.json, and restart. Players download resource packs automatically when they join. The easier route works too: build a world with the add-ons on your own device, export it as a .mcworld and upload that.

One honest limit: Marketplace worlds and add-ons are licensed to your account and are meant for Realms, so they stay there. Free add-ons in .mcaddon and .mcpack format from the wider community work on a dedicated server.

A console and settings you control

Type commands straight into the panel console without joining: say, kick, time set day, gamerule keepinventory true or changesetting difficulty hard. Allow cheats, game mode, difficulty and the allowlist are settings in the panel, and Bedrock version can be pinned if you need it. Your world is backed up before every update, and the Backup button keeps copies of your own.

How to join your Minecraft Bedrock server

  1. 1

Update Minecraft to the newest version. Bedrock only joins servers on the same version.

  2. 2

On Windows, iPhone, iPad or Android, click Play, open the Servers tab and choose Add Server.

  3. 3

Type any name, then enter 203.0.113.24 as the server address and 19132 as the port.

  4. 4

Click Save, then pick the server in the list to join. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch cannot add servers this way, see the tips below.

Common problems

IP and port go in separate boxes

Bedrock asks for the Server Address and the Port separately. Put only the numbers before the colon in Server Address, and the number after the colon in Port. Leaving the port at 19132 is the most common reason a server will not connect.

"Outdated server" or "Outdated client"

Bedrock only connects when your game and the server run the same version. Update Minecraft from your app store, or ask the owner to click Update game in the dashboard after a new Minecraft release.

Playing on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch?

Consoles only show the featured servers and have no Add Server button. The usual workaround is the free BedrockConnect DNS method, which adds a screen where you type the address. Apps like BedrockTogether (phone) or Phantom (PC on the same Wi-Fi) can also make the server show up under Friends or LAN games.

"You are not invited to this server"

The allowlist is on and your Gamertag is not on it. Ask the owner to add you with Allowlist player, typing your Gamertag exactly.

On Java Edition?

Java Edition players cannot join a Bedrock server. For Java and Bedrock players together, run a Java server with Geyser instead.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Common questions

Is a Realm easier than a dedicated server?

Yes, a Realm is simpler. A dedicated server asks a little more of you and gives back file access, console commands, add-ons, a player limit you choose and backups you can download.

How many players can be online at once?

As many as your plan holds: 10 on Starter, 25 on Standard and 50 on Pro. A Realm allows you and 10 friends at once.

Can I bring a world I play on my device?

Yes. Export it from Minecraft as a .mcworld file, unzip it, upload the folder into worlds and set World name to that folder's name.

Can I use Marketplace content?

No. Marketplace worlds and add-ons are licensed to your account and are meant for Realms, not for copying onto dedicated servers. Community add-ons in .mcaddon or .mcpack format work.

Can console players join a dedicated server?

Yes. Consoles have no Add Server button, so console players use the free BedrockConnect DNS method, or an app like BedrockTogether or Phantom, once. After that they play like everyone else.

What if I want to go back?

There is no contract. Cancel any time, and a new customer's first purchase has a 72 hour full refund.

Can PlayStation, Xbox and Switch players join?

Yes, they play on the server like anyone else. Consoles just have no Add Server button, so console players use the free BedrockConnect DNS method to type in the address, or an app like BedrockTogether or Phantom that lists the server under Friends or LAN games.

Can Java Edition players join?

No. Bedrock Dedicated Server only accepts Bedrock players. If your group mixes Java and Bedrock, pick our Minecraft: Java Edition server and add Geyser, which lets Bedrock players join a Java world.

Why does it say "Outdated server"?

Minecraft updated on your device and the server is still on the older version. Click Update game in the dashboard. Your world is backed up first and kept.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
