The Isle Evrima Server Requirements: RAM, CPU and Player Count

An Evrima dedicated server for The Isle needs about 8 GB of RAM for up to roughly 30 players, 12 GB for an active server with 50 or more, and 16 GB as you approach the 100 player cap. A modern CPU with strong single core speed matters as much as memory, because the server simulates every dinosaur, the AI wildlife and the map on a main thread. Beyond player count, the settings that move the load most are MaxPlayerCount, bSpawnAI and AIDensity in Game.ini.
These figures are the ones we use to size our own plans for The Isle. They are a starting point. Watch real usage on a busy evening and adjust.

RAM by community size
| Community | Players online at peak | RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Small group or new server | Up to about 30 | 8 GB |
| Active community | 50 or more | 12 GB |
| Large server | Approaching 100 | 16 GB |
Memory grows with the population because every connected player is a fully simulated creature the server tracks, plus the things around them: AI wildlife, corpses, nests and carcasses. A server that runs fine in the afternoon can run short at peak, so size for your busiest hour, not the average.
What uses the CPU
The Isle runs on Unreal Engine, and like most Unreal servers it leans on one fast core more than on many slow ones. The work grows with:
- Players, especially when many are in one area, such as a popular water source or a big fight.
- AI wildlife.
bSpawnAIturns the AI on or off, andAIDensityscales how much spawns. AI is part of the game's feel, but it costs. - Map activity. Corpses and other leftovers add up on a long running server.
When the CPU cannot keep up, players see rubber banding and delayed hits, even if memory is fine. That is the sign to move to a stronger machine or trim AI, not to add RAM.
The settings that change the load
All of these live in Game.ini under [/Script/TheIsle.TIGameSession]:
| Setting | Effect on load |
|---|---|
MaxPlayerCount |
The biggest single factor. 100 is the practical maximum |
bSpawnAI |
false removes AI wildlife entirely |
AIDensity |
Scales AI spawns. Lower values reduce CPU and memory |
bQueueEnabled |
No load cost, but keeps a full server from bouncing players |
bServerDynamicWeather |
Weather changes. Minor cost |
A good approach for a growing server is to start with a lower MaxPlayerCount and the queue on, then raise the cap once you have seen how the server copes. The queue means a full server is a short wait, not a lost player.
Disk and network
- Disk: the server install is large and grows with updates. Fast SSD storage helps start times and map loading.
- Network: the game uses UDP 7777, with TCP 10000 for the queue and TCP 8888 for RCON if enabled. A busy 100 player server needs a solid upload connection, which is where home hosting often falls short even when the PC is strong enough.
- Epic Online Services: Evrima servers authenticate through EOS, set in
Engine.ini, so the machine needs reliable outbound internet too.
Our Evrima hosting guide covers the full Engine.ini and Game.ini setup.
Can you host it on a home PC?
For a small group, yes, if the PC has RAM to spare beyond what you use for your own game. The practical problems are elsewhere:
- The PC has to stay on around the clock, or the server and its population disappear.
- Upload speed limits how many players you can serve smoothly.
- You need port forwarding, which some providers make impossible with carrier grade NAT.
- Playing on the same PC that hosts means both fight for the same CPU.
Our guides to keeping a server online without your PC and how much RAM a game server needs go deeper on these tradeoffs.

Signs your server is undersized
| Symptom | Likely limit |
|---|---|
| Crashes or restarts at peak | Out of memory |
| Rubber banding with plenty of free RAM | CPU |
| Lag only near crowded spots | CPU, too many players and AI in one area |
| Slow joins when full | Queue disabled or queue port closed |
| Fine after restart, worse each day | Leftover entities building up. Schedule restarts |
A daily restart in a quiet hour is a cheap fix for the last one. Our guide on how often to restart a game server explains why.
Sizing a hosted server
A GamezServers The Isle server is sized by RAM, with plans in the same tiers as above, and you can change plan at any time from the panel as your population grows, with the price prorated. The Player Count (up to 100), queue, weather and RCON are panel settings, and AI and species rules sit in Game.ini in the file manager. Community staff can split the bill, up to 10 people each paying their share, which makes a 16 GB server for a big community easier to carry.
FAQ
How much RAM does a The Isle Evrima server need?
About 8 GB for up to 30 players, 12 GB for 50 or more, and 16 GB near 100.
What is the maximum player count on an Evrima server?
100 is the practical maximum, set with MaxPlayerCount in Game.ini.
Does turning off AI reduce server load?
Yes. bSpawnAI=false removes AI wildlife, and a lower AIDensity reduces it, both of which save CPU and memory.
Is CPU or RAM more important for The Isle?
Both matter. RAM decides whether the server stays up at peak, and single core CPU speed decides whether it plays smoothly.
