To use admin commands on a The Front dedicated server, add your 17 digit SteamID64 to the server's admin list (the -ServerAdminAccounts launch option, separated by semicolons), restart, then open the console in game with the key left of 1 (the tilde or backtick key, with an English keyboard layout active). GM commands such as KickPlayerOff <SteamID64>, BanPlayer <SteamID64> login, GotoPlayerByAccount <SteamID64> and SaveWorld then work, along with dozens of rate commands that change XP, gathering and damage on the fly.

Step 1: Become a GM

Admins in The Front are called GMs, and they are set by SteamID64 when the server starts:

-ServerAdminAccounts="76561198000000001;76561198000000002"

IDs added this way get the highest GM level. Restart the server after changing the list. Once you are a GM, you can add more from inside the game:

AddGM 76561198000000003 25
RemoveGM 76561198000000003

The number after the ID is the GM level.

Step 2: Open the console

The console opens with the key to the left of 1, usually ` or ~. It only responds when an English keyboard layout is active, so on a German, French or other layout, switch Windows to English (US) before pressing the key. If nothing opens, that is almost always why.

The Front, an open world survival game

Player management

Command What it does
KickPlayerOff <SteamID64> Kicks the player off the server
BanPlayer <SteamID64> login Bans the player from logging in
PermitPlayer <SteamID64> login Lifts a login ban
BanPlayer <SteamID64> chat Mutes the player in chat
PermitPlayer <SteamID64> chat Lifts the chat mute
GotoPlayerByAccount <SteamID64> Teleports you to the player
RelocatePlayerToGM <SteamID64> Brings the player to you
DestroyPlayerByGUID <playerID> Kills the player
GMClearInventory <playerID> Clears the player's inventory

Bans and GM records are stored in the save's GameStates/Accounts/GM.csv, which is also why a careful wipe leaves that file in place.

Server control

Command What it does
SaveWorld Saves the world now
CloseServer Shuts the server down
SetSaveGameInterval <seconds> Changes the autosave interval
SetTime <value> Sets the time of day
SetCanChat 1/0 Turns global chat on or off
ToggleGMTitleShow 1/0 Shows or hides the GM icon

Run SaveWorld before CloseServer or a restart, so the last minutes of building are not lost.

Rate commands for your server's feel

The Front's real depth for admins is in rate commands. Each takes a multiplier, where 1 is normal:

Command Effect
SetPlayerAddExpRate <x> XP gain for all players
GMSetTreeGainRate <x> Wood per harvest
GMSetOreGainRate <x> Ore per harvest
GMSetCropGrowRate <x> Crop growth speed
GMSetCraftTimeRate <x> Crafting and repair speed
GMSetHungerDecRate <x> How fast hunger drops
GMSetWaterDecRate <x> How fast thirst drops
SetWildNPCDamageRate <x> Damage from wild creatures
SetMeleePlayerDamageRatio <x> Melee damage between players
SetRangedPlayerDamageRatio <x> Ranged damage between players
SetConstructMaxHealthRatio <x> Building durability

A relaxed PvE group might double XP and gathering and lower wild NPC damage. A hardcore PvP server might leave gathering at 1 and raise building durability so raids take planning. Change one or two at a time and play a few sessions before adjusting again.

Gameplay switches

Command Effect
SetIsCanFriendDamage 0/1 Friendly fire between squadmates
SetIsCanSelfDamage 0/1 Damage to yourself, such as from your own explosives
GMSetDeathDropMode <0/1/2> What drops on death: 0 nothing, 1 everything, 2 inventory only
SetConstructDisableRed 1/0 Building decay off or on
SetHouseFlagExcitantTime <hours> Hours when flags can be attacked

Friendly fire, self damage and novice protection are also startup settings, so set your defaults there and use the commands only for temporary changes.

Cheat style commands for events

GMs also get tools like fly, walk, ghost, hide 1, goto x y z and GMAddItems <itemID> <amount> <playerID>. They are handy for building event arenas or fixing a bug that cost someone their gear. Use them in the open, and tell players what you spawned, so the server's economy stays trusted.

Do commands survive a restart

Many rate commands apply to the running server. Test whether a change sticks after a restart on your build before announcing it as a permanent rule, and keep a note of the values you set so you can re-apply them.

On a hosted server

On a GamezServers The Front server, the Server Admins field in the control panel takes your SteamID64s separated by semicolons and gives them the top GM level on start. The panel also covers PvE, self damage, friendly fire, novice protection, save interval, anticheat, the chat filter, an admin label and server tags. The save folder with GM.csv is in the file manager. For setup, see how to host The Front dedicated server, and for starting fresh, how to wipe a The Front server.
