To wipe a The Front server, stop it, open the save's Saved/GameStates folder and delete what you want reset: Worlds/ for a map wipe, Players/ for a player wipe, or Worlds/, Players/, DeletedPlayers/, ConstructData.sav, GuildData.sav and the account files for a full wipe. Keep Accounts/GM.csv if you want admins and bans to survive. Start the server and it generates a fresh world. The even simpler route is to change the save name the server uses, which starts a new world and keeps the old one untouched.

Why and when to wipe

The Front is built for big PvP servers where clans claim land and raid. Over a few weeks, established clans snowball, new players arrive to a map that is already claimed, and the server goes quiet. Regular wipes reset the race. Many community servers run a fixed schedule, such as every 30 or 60 days, and say so in their server name or tags. PvE and friend group servers often never wipe at all.

Decide your schedule before you open the server, announce it, and stick to it. Surprise wipes lose players faster than anything.

Where the save lives

Each world is stored under a user folder named after the save, set by the server's config name. On a server started with -UserDir, the path looks like:

<UserDir>/<save name>/Saved/GameStates/

On our servers that is TheFrontManager/<Config Name>/Saved/GameStates/. Inside:

Path What it holds
Worlds/ The map: terrain changes, buildings, containers
Players/ Player characters, levels and inventories
DeletedPlayers/ Characters players have deleted
ConstructData.sav Building data
GuildData.sav Squads and clans
Accounts/Accounts.csv and .csv.back Account records
Accounts/NickNames.csv Player nicknames
Accounts/GM.csv Admins and bans

Before any wipe

  1. Announce it, with the date and time, in game and in your Discord.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. Back up the whole save folder. If a player argues they lost something they should not have, or you change your mind, a backup is the only way back.

Full wipe

Everything resets, as if the server were new, except admins and bans if you keep GM.csv.

Delete:

  • Worlds/
  • Players/
  • DeletedPlayers/
  • ConstructData.sav
  • GuildData.sav
  • Accounts/Accounts.csv and Accounts/Accounts.csv.back
  • Accounts/NickNames.csv
  • ListenServer/ and Logs/ in the Saved folder if present (logs are optional to keep)

Leave Accounts/GM.csv in place to keep your GM list and bans. Start the server, and it creates a fresh world.

Map wipe only

Players keep their characters, levels and blueprints, but the world resets: all buildings and containers are gone.

Delete the .sav and .bak files in Worlds/, then start the server. Join and check that old buildings are really gone before you announce the server is open.

This is the common choice for servers that want fresh land grabs without making everyone grind levels again.

Player wipe only

The map stays, characters reset. Delete the .sav and .bak files in Players/. This is rarer, but useful after an exploit let players gain levels or items unfairly.

The shortcut: a new save name

The server's config name decides which save folder it uses. Change it, and the server creates a brand new world in a new folder on the next start, while the old world stays on disk. Change it back and the old world returns.

  • Good for seasons: season4, season5, and you can revisit old seasons.
  • Good for testing: try a new rate setup on a throwaway world.
  • Use letters and numbers only, no spaces or symbols.

Players' characters live inside the save folder too, so a new save name means a full wipe for everyone, apart from the files you copy across.

After the wipe

  • Check your GM rights still work.
  • Re-apply any rate commands you set in game, if they did not carry over. See The Front admin commands.
  • Update your server name or tags with the next wipe date.

Advertising your wipe schedule

The server's tags can show the wipe schedule in the list. On our panel, Server Tags take numbers, up to 5, including 6 for a 15 day wipe, 7 for 30 days, 5 for 45 days and 8 for 60 days, alongside 0 PvP and 1 PvE. Players who like fresh starts filter for exactly this.

On a hosted server

On a GamezServers The Front server, the save folders are in the file manager, so a wipe is a few clicks: stop, take a one click backup, delete the files above, start. The Config Name field in the panel is the save name shortcut: change it to start a new world, change it back to return. Server Tags, PvE and the save interval are panel fields too. For moving an existing world in instead of wiping, see how to move The Front save to a dedicated server.
