Longvinter Server Not Showing in the Server Browser: How to Fix It

If your Longvinter server is running but missing from the Server Browser, first check the server finished creating its session, then search by your server tag rather than the full name, and make sure the query port is open. While you fix it, players can join straight away with Connect by IP using the server's IP and game port (not the query port). If players get in by IP but the server still is not listed, it is a listing problem, not a broken server.

How Longvinter servers get listed

A Longvinter server registers a session when it starts, and the browser lists sessions it can query. Two ports are involved:

The game port is how players actually connect. The query port only answers "what is this server?" for the browser. That split explains most of the confusion: a closed query port hides the server from the list while Connect by IP still works, and typing the query port into Connect by IP fails.

Fix 1: Wait for the session

On start the server loads the island and then creates its session. Watch the console for:

CreateSession: Successfully created session

Until that line appears, the server is not listed. After it appears, give the browser a few minutes. New servers can take a while to show up, and the browser itself only refreshes when you refresh it.

Fix 2: Search smarter

The browser holds a lot of servers. A few habits make yours easy to find:

Search by tag. ServerTag takes one tag, such as PVE or your community's short name. Players can filter by it.
Use a distinctive name. Generic names drown among other servers. The main menu also only shows about 20 characters of a server name, so put the important part first.
Do not use "OFFICIAL". Uuvana asks community servers not to use it in names or tags, and players looking for official servers will not trust it anyway.
Check the filters. A player with password protected servers hidden will not see yours if it has a password.

Fix 3: Open the query port

If the session line appears but nobody, anywhere, can see the server after several minutes, the query port is likely blocked.

Forward the game port and the query port as UDP on the router, to the machine running the server.
Allow both through the firewall.
On a VPS, open them in the provider's firewall too.
If you run two servers on one machine, each needs its own game and query ports.

Fix 4: Connect by IP the right way

Connect by IP skips the browser entirely:

Open the Server Browser.
Click Connect by IP at the top right.
Enter the server's public IP and game port, for example 203.0.113.10:7777.
Enter the password if there is one.

Mistakes that make it fail:

Using the query port instead of the game port.
Using a local 192.168.x.x address from outside the host's network.
A password with symbols. Longvinter server passwords should be letters and numbers only.

Official Uuvana servers cannot be joined by IP, only community servers.

Fix 5: Listed but players cannot join

Sometimes the problem is the reverse: the server is listed, but joining fails.

Version mismatch after an update. Players update through Steam; a server on the previous build kicks or refuses them. Update the server with SteamCMD (app 1639880, as in the setup guide) and restart.
Full server. MaxPlayers is reached.
VPN kicks. Longvinter has a VPN check. In late 2024 it falsely kicked players on private servers until a patch fixed it. If one player is kicked with a VPN message, have them turn off any VPN or proxy and update the game.
Anti-cheat. Easy Anti-Cheat is enabled. A player whose anti-cheat failed to start will not get in. Restarting the game through Steam usually fixes it.

Fix 6: The browser bug that was not your fault

Longvinter has had genuine server browser bugs, where a server dropped out of the list while staying playable. Uuvana fixed versions of this in 2023 and again in March 2025. If your server suddenly vanished after working fine, with no changes on your side, check the latest Longvinter patch notes and update both game and server. Connect by IP keeps your group playing meanwhile.
