Is No Love Lost Still Active in 2026? An Honest Look
No Love Lost is still free on Steam, but updates stopped in 2024 and public lobbies are nearly empty. What still works, and how a crew can keep playing.

No Love Lost is still playable and still free on Steam in 2026, but it is not an active game in the usual sense. Its last Steam announcement was in May 2024, its reviews sit at Mixed, and Steam's own player count showed nobody in game when this guide was written in October 2026. Public matchmaking will rarely find you a raid. The game itself still runs, and so does its dedicated server tool, so a group that brings its own players and its own server can still play it the way it was meant to be played.
What No Love Lost is
No Love Lost is a free to play PvPvE extraction game from Ratloop Games Canada, a Montreal indie studio. Up to ten players land on the planet Drosera in competing crews. You ride hoverboards and hoverbikes across four biomes, harvest a resource called Nectar, finish quests, fight the local creatures and decide whether to cooperate with, avoid or ambush the other crews. When night falls, anyone not on the extraction ship is left behind. Raids last around 15 minutes, and perks earned between successful extractions carry over.
It is a bright, fast, friendly take on the extraction genre, and it plays best with people you know.
The timeline
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 2024 | Free demo during Steam Next Fest |
| 11 March 2024 | Ratloop publishes its dedicated server guide |
| 12 March 2024 | Full release, free to play on Steam |
| March to April 2024 | Founders Pack on sale, play with the devs events |
| 26 April 2024 | Drosera Dusk event with a new Raider and a new co-op mode |
| May 2024 | Last announcement on the Steam page, for Steam's Endless Replayability Fest |
After May 2024 the Steam announcements stop. The store page still works, the game still downloads, and the dedicated server tool (Steam app 2833050) still installs with an anonymous login.
Where the player base stands
Be realistic before you invite ten friends:
- Reviews: Mixed, from 72 Steam reviews at the time of writing, split almost evenly between positive and negative.
- Concurrent players: Steam's public player count API reported zero players in game when we checked in October 2026, and third party trackers show single digits at best.
- Public sessions: with numbers like these, queueing alone will usually leave you waiting.
None of this means the game is broken. It means the game no longer brings players to you. You bring them.

What still works
| Part | State in 2026 |
|---|---|
| Download and launch | Works, free on Steam, Windows only |
| Raids with your own group | Works on a dedicated server |
| Co-op mode from the 2024 update | Part of the game |
| Dedicated server tool | Installs from Steam Tools or SteamCMD, app 2833050 |
| Steam Deck | Not supported, so Deck players need a PC |
| New content | None announced since 2024 |
The important part is the dedicated server. Ratloop released it before launch, with the server name, ports and an optional password all set on the start line. As long as it keeps running, a crew can play together regardless of how empty matchmaking is.
Why a private server is the way to play now
Extraction games need other people in the raid. In a full game, matchmaking provides them. In a quiet one, a dedicated server does three useful things:
- It gives your group a fixed place to meet. Everyone opens the session list, finds the server by its unique name, and joins. No waiting for a match that never fills.
- It stays up between sessions. Nobody has to host from their own PC, so the friend with the best upload speed does not have to be online for anyone else to play.
- It lets you fill the rival crews yourselves. The game is built for up to ten players split into crews, which suits a Discord group splitting into two or three teams for a night of PvPvE.
Our No Love Lost server setup guide covers installing the server, the launch options and the ports. If you already have one and nobody can see it, the server list fix is the place to start.
Should your group bother?
Worth it if:
- Your group has five to ten people who like the extraction idea and want something lighter and brighter than the big names.
- You want a free game nobody has to buy, for a game night with friends of mixed means.
- You enjoy a game for what it is now, without waiting for updates.
Probably skip it if:
- You want a game with a growing community and regular content.
- Your group is two people. Raids against empty crews lose most of the tension.
- Someone in your group plays on a Steam Deck.
For two players there are better options, and we keep a list of games worth hosting for two players.
Risks to keep in mind
A quiet game can change without notice. Ratloop could pull the server tool, stop the backend the game needs, or remove the game from sale. None of that has been announced, but with no news since 2024 there is also nothing promising otherwise. Treat No Love Lost as a fun extra for your group rather than a long term home, and pay month to month for anything you set up for it.
Running it with us
A No Love Lost server from GamezServers installs the dedicated server for you, takes its name from the panel, updates itself on every start, and needs no port forwarding. Plans are monthly with no contract, Sleep when empty can stop it after 4 days with nobody on, and up to 10 friends can split the bill so a free game stays close to free for everyone. Our panel does not expose a password for this game, so pick a server name only your group would search for.
