To move a Craftopia world to a dedicated server, copy the contents of %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Pocketpair\Craftopia\PPSave (the Worlds folder and the files beside it, everything except steam_autocloud.vdf) into the server's DedicatedServerSave folder. Then set the server's world name (name under [GameWorld] in ServerSetting.ini, or World Name in a panel) to your world's exact name and restart. It works for Steam worlds on the same game version as the server.
What you can and cannot move
| World | Can it move to a dedicated server? |
|---|---|
| Single player or hosted co-op world from the Steam version, current format | Yes, this guide |
| A world from another Craftopia dedicated server | Yes, copy its whole DedicatedServerSave folder |
A world from before the Seamless World update (old Save folder) |
Not with this guide. Old saves use the old format, and the server reads the PPSave format |
| A Game Pass or Xbox world | Not directly. Those saves live in a different, encrypted store, and dedicated servers are for the Steam version only |
| A world from an alpha or beta branch the server is not on | No. Put the server on the same branch first |
What goes where
| File or folder | What it holds | On your PC | On the server |
|---|---|---|---|
PPSave\Worlds\ |
Your world: terrain, buildings, conveyors, machines, chests | %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Pocketpair\Craftopia\PPSave\Worlds\ |
DedicatedServerSave/Worlds/ |
Other files in PPSave |
Save metadata the world needs | PPSave\ |
DedicatedServerSave/ |
steam_autocloud.vdf |
Steam Cloud bookkeeping for your PC | PPSave\ |
Do not copy |
ServerSetting.ini |
World name, difficulty, game mode, player cap, PIN password, autosave timing | Only exists if you ran a server before | Next to Craftopia.x86_64 in the server root |
The quickest way to reach the folder on Windows is to press Windows + R, paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Pocketpair\Craftopia\PPSave and press Enter. Since a December 2021 patch, the dedicated server keeps its saves and settings next to its own executable instead of in AppData, as Pocketpair's notice on Steam explains, so everything you upload goes into the server's own folder.

Before you start
- Close Craftopia on the PC that hosted the world, so the last autosave is fully written.
- Back up the whole
PPSavefolder somewhere safe. - Match the version. Craftopia is in Early Access and patches often. The server and every player must be on the same build, so update the server before you upload.
- Write down the world name exactly as it appears in the world list, capitals and spaces included.
Step 1: Start the server once and stop it
Let the dedicated server start with its default world, then stop it. It creates ServerSetting.ini and the DedicatedServerSave folder, so you can see where its own world landed. Your world replaces it.
Step 2: Remove or back up the server's own world
Download or back up the server's DedicatedServerSave folder if you might want the fresh world later, then delete the old world from DedicatedServerSave/Worlds/. Two worlds sitting side by side is how people end up loading the wrong one.
Step 3: Upload the PPSave contents
Upload the contents of your PPSave folder into DedicatedServerSave/, so your world ends up in DedicatedServerSave/Worlds/. Skip steam_autocloud.vdf and the backups folder if there is one. Automation heavy worlds get big, so zip them first, or use an SFTP app like FileZilla or WinSCP, which is far more reliable than a browser upload.
Step 4: Set the world name and check ServerSetting.ini
The server loads the world whose name matches name in the [GameWorld] section:
[GameWorld]
name=OurFactory
difficulty=1
gameMode=1
[Host]
maxPlayerNumber=7
usePassword=0
serverPassword=1234
Set name to your world's exact name. With the server stopped, check the other values: difficulty (0 Easy to 3 Very Hard), maxPlayerNumber (Pocketpair warns that more than 8 can be unstable) and usePassword with a numeric serverPassword of up to 8 digits. Start the server and wait for World is loaded! in the console, then join by IP.
The gotcha: the panel writes the world name for you
On most hosting panels, including ours, the world name is not read from your edit of ServerSetting.ini. The panel's World Name field is written into [GameWorld] name every time the server starts. If you only edit the ini, your change is overwritten on the next start and the server creates a brand new empty world with the panel's name, which looks exactly like your upload failed.
So set World Name in the panel, not just in the file. It must match your world exactly, including capitals, because the server runs on Linux, where ourfactory and OurFactory are different names. Everything else in ServerSetting.ini (difficulty, creative options, player cap, password) is yours to edit, and is read once at start, so restart after saving.
What happens to characters
Craftopia keeps characters separate from worlds, Terraria style: players pick a character when they join, so the world moving over does not mean anyone loses their character. Buildings, machines, chests and everything placed in the world travel with the world save. If a player's character file was lost on their own PC, they can make a new one and walk back into the same base.
Common problems
- Server makes a brand new world: the panel's World Name does not match your world exactly, or you only changed it in
ServerSetting.iniand the panel wrote over it. - "Version mismatch" or cannot join after a patch: the server is on an older build. Leave auto update on and restart so it pulls the same version as the players.
- World loads but parts are missing: files from
PPSavewere left behind, or the world was saved on a different branch. - Password rejected: Craftopia passwords are numbers only, up to 8 digits. Letters never work.
- Server unstable with a big group:
maxPlayerNumberis set far above 8. Bring it back down.
Moving it to GamezServers
On a Craftopia server from GamezServers, you upload PPSave over SFTP (login in Settings) or in the file manager, which also does zips, extract and downloading a file from a link straight to the server. Set World Name, leave Auto Update on, and click Backup before replacing anything. The factory then keeps its place online without anyone's PC running. For the settings file key by key, see how to host a Craftopia server.
FAQ
Where are Craftopia saves stored?
In %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Pocketpair\Craftopia\PPSave on Windows, with each world in the Worlds folder. The older Save folder holds pre Seamless World saves.
Why does my Craftopia server keep making a new world?
The server's world name does not match your world exactly. On a hosting panel, change World Name in the panel, because it rewrites ServerSetting.ini on every start.
Can I move a Game Pass Craftopia world to a server?
Not directly. Game Pass saves are stored differently, and dedicated servers only accept players from the Steam version.
Will my friends keep their characters?
Yes. Characters are separate from the world, so each player joins with their own character.
