Pocketpair announced in September 2026 that Craftopia will leave Early Access with a 1.0 release in 2027 on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and that the Xbox One version is discontinued. For dedicated server owners, nothing changes today: the Steam dedicated server keeps working, the game keeps updating during Early Access, and the safe habits are the same as ever. Keep the server updated with the client, back up your world before each patch, and keep the player cap at 8 or below.

What Pocketpair announced
The headline points from the September 2026 announcement, as reported by the gaming press:
- Craftopia 1.0 is planned for 2027.
- Platforms at 1.0: Steam, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC (Microsoft Store and Game Pass).
- Xbox One is dropped. Pocketpair said it could not reach acceptable performance and stability on the older console, so development for that version has been discontinued.
- Focus on polish. Much of the work is about cleaning up and refining what is already in the game and fixing long standing issues, rather than piling on new systems.
- An apology about communication. Pocketpair acknowledged that Craftopia players felt the game had been neglected while Palworld took off, and said Palworld's success has freed resources to work on Craftopia's technical problems.
The announcement did not go into detail on dedicated servers, save compatibility or crossplay. Anything below about those topics is practical advice, not a promise from the developer.
What it means for a dedicated server today
The server keeps working
The Craftopia dedicated server runs on PC and is joined by IP from the Steam version. That has not changed. Your world, ServerSetting.ini and save carry on as before.
Updates will keep coming, and some will be big
A move toward 1.0 means more patches, not fewer. Early Access games in their final stretch often change systems and balance, and Craftopia has had large updates before (the seamless world rework was one). Every client update means the server has to update too, or players get turned away until it does.
Back up before every patch
This is the habit that saves worlds. Before a big update lands:
- Stop the server.
- Copy the whole save folder somewhere safe, or take a backup in your panel.
- Update and start the server.
- Join and check the world, especially automation lines and buildings.
If something is broken, you can roll back and wait for a hotfix instead of losing weeks of factory building. Our general guide on how to back up a game server covers the routine.
Keep the player cap sensible
maxPlayerNumber in ServerSetting.ini accepts up to 127, but Pocketpair's own guidance is that more than 8 players may cause stability problems. Until 1.0 says otherwise, 8 or fewer is the safe number.
Should you wait for 1.0 to start a server?
There is no reason to wait if your group wants to play now. Two honest points to weigh:
- Saves across big updates. Nobody outside Pocketpair knows yet whether every Early Access world will carry into 1.0 untouched. Early Access saves usually survive, but a major release can bring a "start fresh for the best experience" moment. If a long running world matters to you, back it up and expect that a new world might be the better way to see 1.0 content.
- The game is playable now. Craftopia already mixes hunting, farming, dungeons, building and conveyor automation. Plenty of groups get months out of one world.
If you start now, treat the world as something to enjoy until 1.0, and be pleased if it carries over.
Crossplay and the server
Today, the Steam version and the Microsoft versions (Xbox and PC Game Pass) are separate. Dedicated servers are for the Steam version, so Xbox and Game Pass players cannot join them. The 1.0 announcement lists Steam and Xbox platforms side by side, but it did not promise crossplay between them or dedicated server support for Xbox players. If crossplay is why you are waiting, wait for Pocketpair to confirm it specifically.
For a group that is split between Steam and Game Pass today, the in game session hosted from an Xbox platform is the only way to play together. Our comparison of a Craftopia dedicated server and hosting a session covers that choice.
A short checklist for server owners
| Do now | Why |
|---|---|
| Keep auto update on, restart after patches | Clients refuse old servers |
| Back up before each update | Roll back if a patch breaks the world |
Keep maxPlayerNumber at 8 or below |
Pocketpair's stability guidance |
| Watch memory as automation grows | Big factory worlds need more RAM |
| Follow Pocketpair's announcements | Save and crossplay details for 1.0 are not out yet |
Hosting through to 1.0
A GamezServers Craftopia server keeps your world up without anyone hosting from home. Auto Update brings the server in line with the client on each restart, one click backups give you a restore point before every patch, and ServerSetting.ini is open in the file manager for difficulty, creative mode, the player cap and the PIN password. If you are setting it up yourself, how to host a Craftopia server covers the full install.
