How to Move a Conan Exiles Server to a New Host
Move a Conan Exiles server to a new host: copy game.db, the ini files in Saved/Config, and your mod paks with a fixed modlist.txt. Enhanced and Legacy.

To move a Conan Exiles server to a new host, stop the old server and download ConanSandbox/Saved/game.db (every character, clan, building and thrall), the ini files in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ (ServerSettings.ini, Engine.ini, Game.ini), and the ConanSandbox/Mods/ folder with its .pak files and modlist.txt. Upload them to the same paths, rewrite modlist.txt so every line points at the new server's Mods folder, and run the same build (Enhanced or Legacy) with the same mods in the same order.
What you can and cannot move
| Thing | Moves to the new server? |
|---|---|
| Characters, clans, bases, thralls, pets, chests | Yes. All of it is in game.db on the server |
| Server rules: PvP, raid windows, rates, decay, purges, admin password | Yes, ServerSettings.ini |
| Server name, join password, max players | Yes, from Engine.ini and Game.ini, though many hosts set these in their panel |
| Mods and load order | Yes, the paks plus a corrected modlist.txt |
| A Legacy (UE4) Exiled Lands save onto an Enhanced (UE5) server | Yes, Funcom built Enhanced to read it, but it is one way: it cannot go back to Legacy |
| A Legacy Isle of Siptah save onto Enhanced | No. Funcom says Siptah servers cannot migrate directly to Enhanced |
| Console server saves | No. There is no access to console server files |
What goes where

Which mods load, in order | Same | Same, after fixing the paths |

Before you start
- Stop the old server.
game.dbis written while the server runs. A copy taken from a running server can be out of date or damaged. - Know your build. Steam players on the current version need an Enhanced server. Epic, Microsoft Store and Steam Legacy branch players need Legacy. The server and every client must match.
- Check the mods. On Enhanced, only use mods whose Workshop page says they are updated for the UE5 build.
- Keep the download safe. Hold on to your copy of
game.dbuntil the new server has run for a few days.
Step 1: Download from the old host
Use the host's backup download, its file manager's zip option, or SFTP with FileZilla or WinSCP. game.db grows large on busy servers and the Mods folder can be gigabytes, so SFTP is the most reliable. Download the whole ConanSandbox/Saved folder and the whole ConanSandbox/Mods folder. The Logs folder is not needed.
Step 2: Fix modlist.txt
This is the step that breaks most moves. modlist.txt on the old server often lists full paths to where the paks lived there, for example a Steam Workshop folder like .../steamapps/workshop/content/440900/<mod id>/Pippi.pak or a Windows drive path. Those paths do not exist on the new machine, so the server starts without the mods, and the world loads with missing buildings, items and thralls.
Copy every pak into ConanSandbox/Mods/ and rewrite each line as the pak's file name with an asterisk, keeping the exact order:
*BigOverhaulMod.pak
*BuildingPack.pak
*SmallPatch.pak
The order matters as much as the files. Overhauls usually load first and small patches last, and players need the same order or they get a mod mismatch when joining.
Step 3: Upload to the new server
Stop the new server, then:
- Upload
game.dbintoConanSandbox/Saved/, replacing the one the new server created. - Upload the paks and the fixed
modlist.txtintoConanSandbox/Mods/. - Copy your settings into the new server's ini files. Rather than overwriting whole files, copy the
[ServerSettings]values you changed (AdminPassword,PVPEnabled, raid times, rates) into the newServerSettings.ini, so you keep the new host's ports and paths.
Step 4: Moving from Legacy to Enhanced
If you are also switching builds, Funcom's Enhanced migration FAQ is the reference. In short: put the Legacy Exiled Lands game.db in ConanSandbox/Saved/ on the Enhanced server and start it, and it converts. Back up the Legacy file first, because a converted database cannot be moved back to Legacy. Siptah worlds have to go through Funcom's server transfer tool on Legacy first. Any UE4 mods that are not updated for Enhanced must come out of modlist.txt.
Step 5: Start and check
Start the server and watch the log for mods that fail to load. Join, check your base and a few thralls, then type MakeMeAdmin and your admin password in the console to confirm admin works. Send players the new address and the exact mod list.
Common problems
- Buildings or thralls missing: a mod did not load. Check every line of
modlist.txtnames a pak that is actually inConanSandbox/Mods/. - "Mod mismatch" when joining: players have different mods, versions or order from the server's
modlist.txt. - Brand new world with nobody in it:
game.dbwent into the wrong folder, or the server was running and wrote over it. - Settings back to default: the ini went into the wrong config folder for the build, or the server was running when you edited it.
- Steam players cannot see or join the server: the build is wrong for them. Current Steam players need Enhanced.
- Admin password does not work: the new
ServerSettings.inihas a differentAdminPassword.
Moving to GamezServers
On a Conan Exiles server from GamezServers, pick Conan Exiles Enhanced or Standard (Legacy) as the server type to match your players. Click Backup, stop the server, and upload game.db and your Mods folder from the Files tab or over SFTP (login in Settings). The file manager can extract a zip or download one straight from a link. The server name and join password are panel settings, while ServerSettings.ini and modlist.txt are yours to edit. Your clan's base then stays up without anyone's PC. For mod setup in detail, see how to install mods on a Conan Exiles server.
FAQ
Where is the Conan Exiles server save file?
In ConanSandbox/Saved/game.db inside the server's install folder. It holds every character, clan, building and thrall.
Will players keep their characters?
Yes. Characters live in game.db on the server, so they carry over when that file moves.
Can I move a Legacy server save to Enhanced?
Yes for the Exiled Lands. Put game.db on the Enhanced server and it converts, but it cannot go back to Legacy afterwards.
Why do my mods not load after moving?
modlist.txt still points to paths from the old machine. Put the paks in ConanSandbox/Mods/ and list them by file name in the same order.
