To make yourself admin on a FiveM server, add your identifier to the admin group in server.cfg with add_principal identifier.fivem:YOURID group.admin, then restart. That gives you in game admin commands. For the web panel and the in game txAdmin menu, add yourself in txAdmin's Admin Manager too. ESX servers also store a group on the player, set with setgroup.
Two kinds of FiveM admin
FiveM has two separate admin systems, and most "I'm admin but nothing works" problems come from setting up only one of them.
| txAdmin admin | In game (ace) admin | |
|---|---|---|
| What it controls | txAdmin web panel, the /tx menu, bans, kicks, restarts |
Server and framework commands like /car, /setjob, /noclip |
| Where you set it | txAdmin, Admin Manager | server.cfg (or permissions.cfg) with add_ace and add_principal |
| Identified by | Cfx.re account or Discord ID | Any player identifier, usually fivem: or license: |
| Needs a restart | No | Yes, or a refresh of permissions |
The person who set up txAdmin with the PIN is the master admin and already has both: txAdmin recipes write the master's identifier into group.admin through the {{addPrincipalsMaster}} line in the generated server.cfg.
How do I find my FiveM identifier?
Your identifier is the ID the server uses to recognise you. The most useful ones for admin are fivem: (your Cfx.re account) and license: (your Rockstar license).
- Join the server.
- In txAdmin, open Players, click your name and look at the IDs tab. You will see lines like
fivem:1234567andlicense:abc123.... - Copy the
fivem:one. It follows your Cfx.re account, so it stays the same if you reinstall.
On a server without txAdmin, the easiest source is your Cfx.re profile: your fivem: number is the user ID in your forum.cfx.re account. Frameworks also save license: identifiers in the players or users table of the database.
How to add an in game admin with add_principal
Ace permissions are FiveM's built in permission system. A principal is a player or group, and an ace is a permission. Admin rights come from putting a player into a group that is allowed to run commands.
Open server.cfg (in txAdmin: CFG Editor) and check this line exists. It lets the admin group run every command:
add_ace group.admin command allow
Then add each admin below it, one line per person:
add_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 group.admin #YourName
add_principal identifier.license:abc123def456 group.admin #CoOwner
Save, then restart the server. The # comment is optional, but it saves you guessing whose ID is whose later.
Give moderators fewer rights
You do not have to make every staff member a full admin. Create a smaller group and allow only what it needs:
add_ace group.mod command.kick allow
add_principal identifier.fivem:7654321 group.mod
Frameworks also check their own ace names, covered below.
How to add an admin in txAdmin
txAdmin admins can use the web panel and the in game txAdmin menu.
- Open txAdmin and go to Admin Manager.
- Click Add Admin.
- Enter a username and their Cfx.re account name or Discord ID.
- Tick the permissions they need, or All permissions for a co owner.
- Save and send them the txAdmin address.
In game, txAdmin admins open the menu with /tx. If the menu does not open, the account in txAdmin is not linked to an identifier that matches the player in game: check that the Cfx.re or Discord ID in Admin Manager matches what the Players page shows for them.
Admin on QBCore
QBCore uses three ace groups, defined in its config.lua as { 'god', 'admin', 'mod' }. The QBCore txAdmin recipe writes this block into server.cfg:
add_ace qbcore.god command allow
add_principal qbcore.god group.admin
add_principal qbcore.god qbcore.admin
add_principal qbcore.admin qbcore.mod
To make someone a QBCore god or admin, add their identifier to that group:
add_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 qbcore.god
Restart, join, and the admin menu opens with /admin.
Admin on Qbox
Qbox keeps its permission setup in permissions.cfg, which the recipe runs with exec permissions.cfg. It defines group.admin, group.mod and group.support, where admin inherits mod and mod inherits support:
add_ace group.admin admin allow
add_ace group.mod mod allow
add_ace group.support support allow
add_principal group.admin group.mod
add_principal group.mod group.support
So adding a player to group.admin with add_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 group.admin gives them every Qbox admin level. Use group.mod or group.support for lighter staff roles.
Admin on ESX
ESX Legacy stores each player's group in the group column of the users table. Set it from the server console (or txAdmin Live Console) while the player is online:
setgroup 1 admin
Replace 1 with their server ID from txAdmin's Players list. The change is saved to the database. You can also edit the group column directly in HeidiSQL while the player is offline. Keep the ace lines as well, because some ESX resources check ace permissions instead of the ESX group.
Admin commands not working?
- You get "access denied" or nothing happens. The identifier in
add_principaldoes not match yours. Copy it again from txAdmin, including the prefix (identifier.fivem:not justfivem:). - You edited server.cfg but nothing changed. Restart the whole server. Ace lines are read when the server starts.
- The line is in the wrong place.
add_aceandadd_principalmust not be inside a file that is never run. If you split permissions intopermissions.cfg, make sureserver.cfghasexec permissions.cfg. - Framework command still blocked. Add yourself to the framework's own group (
qbcore.godon QBCore, or the ESXadmingroup). - txAdmin menu missing. You are an ace admin but not a txAdmin admin. Add yourself in Admin Manager.
Admin on a GamezServers FiveM server
On our FiveM servers, open txAdmin from the panel, enter the PIN shown there and you become the master admin straight away, with your identifier written into server.cfg by the recipe. Add co owners in Admin Manager and the CFG Editor as above. The Players view in your GamezServers panel also lets you kick someone without opening txAdmin. Next, lock the doors with the txAdmin whitelist guide, and if you used Xbox based IDs in old ban lists, read about the xbl and live identifier removal.
FAQ
What is the command to make yourself admin in FiveM?
Add add_principal identifier.fivem:YOURID group.admin to server.cfg and restart. There is no chat command that makes you admin unless someone with rights gives them to you.
How do I open the txAdmin menu in game?
Type /tx in chat. It only works for players added as admins in txAdmin's Admin Manager with a matching identifier.
Should I use the fivem or license identifier?
Use fivem: for staff, because it follows the Cfx.re account and is easy to read in txAdmin. license: works too and is the one most frameworks use for characters.
How do I remove an admin?
Delete their add_principal line and restart, and remove them in txAdmin's Admin Manager. On ESX, also run setgroup ID user.
Do I need to restart after adding an admin?
Yes, for ace permissions in server.cfg. txAdmin admins and the ESX setgroup command take effect without a restart.
