How to Host a Conan Exiles Server (Enhanced and Legacy, 2026)

To host a Conan Exiles server, install the free dedicated server (SteamCMD app 443030, or Funcom's Dedicated Server Launcher on Windows), set the name and password in Engine.ini, the player cap in Game.ini, and the rules in ServerSettings.ini, then open UDP 7777, 7778 and 27015. Since May 2026 the public build is Conan Exiles Enhanced (Unreal Engine 5); groups on Epic or the Microsoft Store need the Legacy branch.

Should my server run Enhanced or Legacy?

Funcom released Conan Exiles Enhanced as a free upgrade on Steam on 5 May 2026. It moved the game to Unreal Engine 5 and merged the Isle of Siptah into the Exiled Lands, so one server now covers both maps. Players on the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store stayed on the older Legacy build, and Steam players can still opt into Legacy as a beta branch.

The rule is simple: the server and every client must run the same build.

Old UE4 mods do not work on Enhanced until their authors update them, so modded communities often check their mod list before moving.

Server launcher or SteamCMD: which should I use?

Funcom's Dedicated Server Launcher is a Windows app that downloads the server, gives you a settings screen and starts it. It is the easiest way to run a server on your own Windows PC for a few friends.

SteamCMD is better for an always on machine, scripts and scheduled updates:

steamcmd +force_install_dir C:\ConanServer +login anonymous +app_update 443030 validate +quit

For the Legacy build, add the branch to the update line (-beta followed by the branch name Funcom lists for Legacy in the tool's Steam properties). Start the server with:

ConanSandboxServer.exe -log

Run the update line again after every patch. Funcom's own dedicated server install guide on Steam is kept current for Enhanced.

Where are the Conan Exiles server config files?

After the first start, the server writes its config to:

ConanSandbox\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\

On a Linux server, including the Enhanced type on GamezServers, the folder is LinuxServer instead of WindowsServer; the files inside are the same.

How do PvP schedules and raid windows work?

Conan has two separate time windows, and mixing them up is the classic mistake:

• PvP time (RestrictPVPTime=True) limits when players can damage each other.
• Building damage time (RestrictPVPBuildingDamageTime=True) limits when players can damage other players' structures, which is what raiding means.

With either switch on, you set start and end times for each day (24 hour times written as numbers, so 1800 is 6 pm). The admin panel's server settings show these as per day start and end fields, which is the easiest way to set them without typos.

Common setups:

Pick times in the time zone where most of your players live, and post the schedule in your Discord so nobody gets raided by surprise.

How do I add Workshop mods?

1. Subscribe to the mods on Steam, or download them, so you have each mod's .pak file.
2. Copy the pak files to the server's ConanSandbox\Mods\ folder (create it if needed).
3. Create ConanSandbox\Mods\modlist.txt and list one pak per line, in load order. Order matters: big overhaul mods usually go first and small fixes or patches last.
4. Restart the server and watch the log for mods that fail to load.
5. Share the list with players. Everyone needs the same mods in the same order, or they get a mod mismatch on join.

How do I become admin?

Set AdminPassword in ServerSettings.ini and restart. In game, open the console and type:

MakeMeAdmin a-long-admin-password

How much RAM does a Conan Exiles server need?

Conan is one of the hungrier survival servers. Big bases with hundreds of placeables, lots of thralls and long mod lists push memory up, and Enhanced uses noticeably more than Legacy.

How many players can a Conan Exiles server hold?

You set the cap with MaxPlayers in Game.ini. Funcom's own servers run 40, and private servers usually match the cap to their group and hardware.

Can Epic Games Store players join an Enhanced server?

No. Epic and Microsoft Store players are on the Legacy build, so they need a Legacy server. The client and server builds must match.

Is the Isle of Siptah a separate server on Enhanced?

No. Enhanced merged Siptah into the Exiled Lands, so one server covers both.

How do I make my Conan Exiles server private?

Set ServerPassword in Engine.ini and restart. Players then need the password whether they use the browser or Direct Connect.
