ServerRates.config in your CryoFall server's Data folder holds every gameplay rate: whether the server is PvP, how fast players gather, learn and craft, hunger and thirst, structure decay, land claim limits, raid protection and tech time gates. Every line starts commented out with #, so a setting only takes effect after you delete the # and restart the server. The single most important key is PvP: set it to 1 for a PvP server, leave it at 0 or commented out for PvE.

The file is generated on the server's first start, with the description of each setting written above it as a comment. Below are the settings worth changing, grouped by what they do, with their default values.

A CryoFall settlement with farms and workshops

How the file works

  • Each setting has a description comment, then a commented line with the key and its value.
  • To use a setting, remove the # at the very start of the key line and change the value. Leave the description comments alone.
  • Booleans are 1 for on and 0 for off. Multipliers are decimals: 2.0 means double, 0.5 means half.
  • Stop or restart the server for changes to load. The server reads the file at start.
  • If you enter something invalid, the server logs an error and falls back to the default for that key, so check the console after a restart.
  • Players see your rates in the server info screen before they join, which is a good reason to set them deliberately.

Keep a copy of the file before big changes. If you mangle it, deleting it and restarting regenerates a clean default file.

The PvP switch

Key Default What it does
PvP 0 1 makes the server PvP, otherwise it is PvE.

On PvE, players cannot damage each other or each other's bases, and PvP only systems like safe storage and oil and lithium deposits do not apply. Switching an existing world from PvE to PvP is possible but a big change for players who built without defenses in mind, so announce it or do it with a wipe.

Gathering and loot

Key Default Max
Resources.Gather.Basic 1.0 100
Resources.Gather.CratesLoot 1.0 100
Resources.Gather.CreaturesLoot 1.0 100
Resources.Gather.Meteorites 1.0 100
Resources.Gather.SpaceDebris 1.0 100
Action.MiningSpeedMultiplier 1.0 10
Action.WoodcuttingSpeedMultiplier 1.0 10
Resources.DepositsExtractionSpeedMultiplier 1.0 100

Resources.Gather.Basic is the big one: more items from foraging, trees, minerals, garbage piles and harvests. The mining and woodcutting speed keys change how fast tools and drones break things, not how much drops. For a small group that plays a few evenings a week, 2.0 to 3.0 on basic gathering removes most of the grind without breaking progression.

Progression speed

Key Default Max
LearningPointsGainMultiplier 1.0 100
SkillExperienceGainMultiplier 1.0 100
CraftingSpeedMultiplier 1.0 100
ManufacturingSpeedMultiplier 1.0 100
TimeDependentGeneratorsRate 1.0 10

Learning points pay for the tech tree, so LearningPointsGainMultiplier decides how fast a season moves through the tiers. CraftingSpeedMultiplier covers hand crafting and workbenches, while furnaces, refineries, wells and other machines use ManufacturingSpeedMultiplier. TimeDependentGeneratorsRate speeds up slow generators such as solar and pragmium power plants, along with their fuel use.

Survival

Key Default Notes
HungerRate 1.0 100 food points last about 1.2 hours at 1.0
ThirstRate 1.0 100 water points last about 1 hour at 1.0
ItemFoodAndConsumablesShelfLifeMultiplier 1.0 Higher means food spoils slower
FarmPlantsGrowthSpeedMultiplier 1.0 Faster crops
FarmPlantsLifetimeMultiplier 1.0 2.0 makes plants spoil half as fast
ItemStackSizeMultiplier 1 One slot holds 250 stone at 1

Farm rate changes do not touch plants already in the ground until they are harvested, watered or fertilized. A higher stack size is one of the most appreciated quality of life changes on casual servers.

Building, land claims and decay

Key Default What it does
Structures.DecayEnabled 1 0 turns off structure decay
Structures.LandClaimDecay.DelayDurationMultiplier 5.0 How long an abandoned base waits before decaying
LandClaimsNumberLimitIncrease 0 Extra land claims per player on top of the base 3
LandClaimOwnersMax 5 Owners per land claim outside factions
DoorOwnersMax 5 Owners per door, 1 to 255
Structures.CanBuildOnMeadows 1 0 forbids building on meadows
Structures.TextSignsAvailable 1 0 removes text signs

Decay is what clears abandoned bases on a busy server. On a private server for a few friends who take breaks, raise the decay delay multiplier or turn decay off so nobody returns after a holiday to an empty plot. Text signs cannot be moderated, so public servers sometimes disable them.

PvP specifics

These only matter with PvP set to 1:

Key Default What it does
Damage.PvPMultiplier 1.0 Player to player weapon damage, 0 disables it
PvP.IsFullLootEnabled 0 1 drops equipped items on death too
PvP.NewbieProtectionDuration 7200 Seconds of protection for new players
PvP.RaidBlockDuration 600 Seconds a bombed base cannot repair or build
PvP.SafeStorageCapacity 24 Safe storage slots per base
PvP.ShieldProtection.Enabled 1 Whether base S.H.I.E.L.D. exists
PvP.ShieldProtection.Duration 187200 S.H.I.E.L.D. length in seconds (52 hours)
PvP.TimeGates 24,72,120,168,216,216,264,264 Hours before tier 3 to 6 tech unlocks
IsOnlinePlayersListHidden 0 Hides who is online

PvP.TimeGates holds eight comma separated numbers in hours: tier 3 basic and specialized, tier 4 basic and specialized, and so on up to tier 6. They stop a hardcore group racing to endgame weapons on day two. Set it to 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 to remove time gates entirely. Raid windows, the hours when bases can be raided at all, are set with a command rather than this file, covered in CryoFall admin commands.

Factions and events

Faction.CreateCostLearningPoints (200), Faction.MembersMax.PrivateFaction (10), Faction.MembersMax.PublicFaction (100, 0 disables public factions), Faction.PvP.AlliancesEnabled and PartyMembersMax (5) shape how big groups can get. BossDifficulty.PragmiumQueen and BossDifficulty.SandTyrant (3 each) set boss difficulty and loot as the number of players a fight is tuned for, which is worth lowering for a small group. WorldEvent.DelayMultiplier delays events such as bosses early in a world.

A starting point for a small PvE group

PvP: 0
Resources.Gather.Basic: 2.0
LearningPointsGainMultiplier: 2.0
CraftingSpeedMultiplier: 2.0
ManufacturingSpeedMultiplier: 2.0
ItemStackSizeMultiplier: 3
Structures.LandClaimDecay.DelayDurationMultiplier: 20.0
BossDifficulty.PragmiumQueen: 2
BossDifficulty.SandTyrant: 2

Copy the key names from your own file and match its layout, because the format the server writes is what it reads back.

Editing it on a hosted server

On a GamezServers CryoFall server the file is at Data/ServerRates.config in the file manager. Take a one click backup, edit, save and press restart in the control panel, and the live console shows the server loading your rates. If you are still setting up, how to host a CryoFall server covers SettingsServer.xml and joining.

FAQ

Why do my CryoFall rate changes do nothing?

The line still starts with #. Every setting in ServerRates.config is commented out by default. Delete the # in front of the key and restart.

How do I make my CryoFall server PvE?

PvE is the default. Make sure the PvP line is set to 0 or still commented out, and restart.

How do I turn off base decay in CryoFall?

Set Structures.DecayEnabled to 0, with the # removed, and restart. To keep decay but slow it down, raise the land claim decay delay multiplier instead.

How do I remove tech time gates on a PvP server?

Set PvP.TimeGates to 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0 and restart.
