What comes set up on a open.mp server
Your Pawn gamemode
Upload compiled .amx gamemodes, filterscripts and plugins over SFTP. Most SA-MP scripts run unchanged on open.mp.
SA-MP players welcome
Players can join from the open.mp launcher or the old SA-MP client, so your existing community does not have to switch anything.
Pin the server version
Pick a release in the panel's Version setting and only move to a newer one after you test your gamemode on it.
RCON from day one
The RCON password is generated for you and written into config.json, so admins can log in from the game straight away.

Common problems
Players need the original PC release of GTA San Andreas. The Definitive Edition does not work, and many Steam copies have to be downgraded to version 1.0 before the client will run.
A plugin that crashes on start is usually a Windows .dll or a 32 bit build. The server here runs on Linux, so upload the Linux .so build of each plugin and list it in config.json.
Server missing from the list? Check that announce is true in config.json and give the masterlist a few minutes after a restart.
Set password in config.json with the file manager for a private test city, and remove it when you open to the public.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your open.mp server
Everything on an open.mp server is scripted in Pawn, and most of the SA-MP library carries over: gamemodes, filterscripts, includes and native plugins uploaded over SFTP.
open.mp server hosting, explained
open.mp is a community multiplayer mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, built as a drop in replacement for the SA-MP server. It is not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two. Every player needs their own copy of GTA San Andreas plus the open.mp launcher or the SA-MP client. On top of that you get the same kinds of servers the scene has run for nearly two decades: roleplay cities, freeroam, stunts, drifting, racing and team deathmatch.
The reason to move from the old SA-MP server is that open.mp stays backwards compatible with Pawn gamemodes and filterscripts while fixing long standing bugs, adding new functions and getting regular releases. Roleplay communities in particular need a city that stays online when the owner logs off, with scripts, database files and logs all in one place. A dedicated server gives you that, plus a stable address your players save once and keep.
In the panel you get the RCON password and the server Version, so you can pin a release or move up when you are ready. Everything else lives in config.json: the server name, max_players, password, announce, the gamemode list and plugins. Edit it in the file manager, upload compiled .amx files and Linux .so plugins over SFTP, and watch the live console as the gamemode loads. Take a one click backup before every big script update.
The open.mp process itself is small. Memory goes to your gamemode: how many vehicles and objects it streams, any MySQL or SQLite plugin, and how many players are online. Freeroam and test servers sit happily on 2 GB. A roleplay city with a database and a busy evening fits 4 GB, and 8 GB is for big gamemodes with heavy custom mapping and a long plugin list.

Common questions
How many players can an open.mp server hold?
Set max_players in config.json, which starts at 50. The engine supports up to 1000 slots, but your gamemode and plan decide what is comfortable.
Can SA-MP players join an open.mp server?
Yes. open.mp accepts the regular SA-MP client as well as its own launcher. Every player still needs their own copy of GTA San Andreas.
Will my SA-MP gamemode work?
In most cases, yes. open.mp is built to run SA-MP gamemodes and filterscripts, though some old plugins need an open.mp compatible or Linux build.
Is open.mp an official Rockstar product?
No. It is an independent open source project with no connection to Rockstar Games or Take-Two. It only adds multiplayer to the game you already own.
Does the Definitive Edition work?
No. open.mp and SA-MP need the original PC release of GTA San Andreas, and Steam copies often need downgrading to version 1.0 first.
How do I become admin on my server?
Log in with the RCON password from the panel by typing /rcon login followed by the password in game chat. Your gamemode may also have its own admin system.
How do I get on the public server list?
open.mp announces to its own masterlist by default. Keep announce set to true in config.json, set the server name and restart.
Can I choose which open.mp version runs?
Yes. The Version setting in the panel takes latest or a specific release tag, which is useful when a gamemode is only tested on one release.
Is GamezServers affiliated with open.mp?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated open.mp server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
