How to join your Hytale server

  1. 1

Open Hytale on the same version as the server.

  2. 2

Click Servers on the main menu, then Add Server.

  3. 3

Paste 203.0.113.24:5520, including the port after the colon, and save it.

  4. 4

Select the server in your list to join. Send the same address to your friends.

Common problems

Include the port

Paste the whole address with the number after the colon. Leaving it off makes the game try port 5520, which may not be your server.

Same version as the server

The launcher updates Hytale automatically. If you cannot join right after a game update, ask the owner to restart the server so it updates too.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Hytale server

Hytale is built to be modded on the server. Java plugins and asset packs go in the server mods folder, and players receive the content when they join, so nobody has to install mods by hand.

Hytale server hosting, explained

Hytale runs on an official dedicated server from Hypixel Studios. It is a Java program, HytaleServer.jar, that needs Java 25 and at least 4 GB of memory, and it talks to players over the QUIC protocol on UDP port 5520 rather than the TCP most block games use. Every server also has to be authorised with a Hytale account the first time it starts, through a short device login in the browser.

That makes self hosting a little fiddly: installing the right Java, fetching the server files and Assets.zip, completing the auth flow, keeping the login saved between restarts and forwarding a UDP port that many router guides get wrong. Our Hytale servers take care of Java, the downloads, updates and the network. The one step left for you is linking the server to your Hytale account once: the first start shows a link and a code in the console, you open it and log in, and the login is kept and refreshed on every start after that.

Hytale is in early access and its Chapter 1 update arrives on 12 October 2026 with a goblin dungeon, rune abilities and new gadgets. We have not set a date for our own Hytale plans yet. Join the waitlist and we will email you as soon as you can deploy. Until then, a good rule of thumb is 4 GB for a handful of friends and 8 GB or more once you add plugins, more players or a longer view distance.

Included on every plan

  • Low ping game hardware
  • Live the moment you pay

Common questions

When can I deploy a Hytale server?

We are still preparing Hytale servers and have not set a date. Join the waitlist and we will email you the moment deploys open.

Does Hytale have official dedicated servers?

Yes. Hypixel Studios provides an official Java server that anyone can run. It needs Java 25 and uses UDP port 5520.

How much RAM does a Hytale server need?

At least 4 GB for a small group. Plan on 8 GB or more for plugins, bigger player counts or a longer view distance.

Why does my new server ask me to log in?

Hytale requires every server to be linked to a Hytale account that owns the game. On the first start the console shows a link and a code. Open the link, log in and approve it within 15 minutes, and the server finishes starting. If the code runs out, start the server again for a new one.

Can I run mods and plugins?

Yes. Upload Java plugins and asset packs to the Server/mods folder and restart. Players get the content automatically when they join.

Will my server be ready for Chapter 1?

Chapter 1 releases on 12 October 2026. Servers need to run the same version as players, and ours check for a new server version on every start, so a restart after the update is all it takes.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
