QANGA Multiplayer Explained: Official vs Custom Servers, Co-op, PvP
How QANGA multiplayer works: official servers, custom servers, co-op and PvP, PvE mode, item drops on death, and when your group needs its own server.

QANGA multiplayer runs on servers rather than on one player's game. The developers run official servers where anyone can drop in, and players can run custom servers with their own rules, crowd and world, which is how a friend group gets a private co-op universe. Custom server admins can switch between PvP and an experimental PvE mode, and decide whether players drop their items on death. Here is how it fits together and when a server of your own is worth it.
The short version
| Option | Who runs it | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Single player | You | Learning the game, solo exploring |
| Official servers | iolaCorp Studio | Meeting other players, open world PvP |
| Custom servers | Anyone | Private co-op, your own rules, PvE groups, communities |
The free demo had no multiplayer. In the full game, multiplayer is how you share the solar system with other cyborgs.

Official servers
From early access launch in September 2024, the studio has run its own servers, starting with a French one and adding a Linux server in the USA for North American players. These are open worlds: you meet strangers at Refuel Towers, trade with them, team up, or fight them.
Official servers are the easy way to try multiplayer. The trade offs are the usual ones for public servers: you do not choose the rules, other players can wreck an evening, and the world is not yours.
Custom servers
Custom servers were part of QANGA's early access pitch: "create and host your own servers with custom rules". Anyone can run the free dedicated server, and it appears in the in game server list under its session name.
What a custom server changes:
- Who is there. Your friends, your Discord or a public community, your call.
- The rules. PvP or PvE, item drops on death, and other server settings.
- Persistence. Your world, bases and progress stay on your server and keep going whether or not anyone is online.
- Uptime. The world is available whenever someone in the group wants to play, not just when a host is around.
This is the only way to play QANGA co-op privately. There is no "invite friends to my single player game" mode, so a group that wants its own world runs or rents a server.
Co-op on a custom server
Co-op in QANGA means a group sharing one universe: flying ships and driving hovercraft together, building bases, taking on procedural quests (added in February 2026), and fighting Sanglines, pirates and rival factions. Since the July 2026 update, planets are busier, with wildlife and factions patrolling and fighting on their own, and you can recruit cyborgs to fight alongside you. The developers have spent much of 2026 fixing multiplayer specifically: quest objectives completing reliably on dedicated servers, rewards going to the right player, enemies dealing damage properly online, and the server automatically reducing AI populations when it gets busy.
The practical upshot: co-op on a dedicated server works much better in late 2026 than it did a year earlier, but it is still early access. Expect bugs and patches.
PvP, PvE and item drops
Two settings shape how harsh a server feels:
PvP or PvE mode. Custom server admins can set the server to PvP or PvE. PvE mode, added in September 2024 and still marked experimental by the developers, lets players explore without constant threat from other players. PvP keeps the open fighting that official servers have, and the studio has talked about dynamic PvP events, such as extraction style raids where players choose between cooperating and betraying each other.
Drop items on death. Server admins decide whether players lose their items when their cyborg is destroyed. On, it raises the stakes and suits PvP. Off, it suits relaxed co-op groups.
Refuel Towers have safe zones either way, so players cannot be killed in their ship by others inside one.
These are server side settings. Where exactly they live depends on the build, so check the server's config files and the current patch notes after updates.
How many players
QANGA removed its fixed player limit on servers early in early access. In practice the limit is the server: memory, CPU and how busy the universe is. Small co-op groups of 2 to 6 are the common case. Public servers with dozens of players need a lot more memory, and the server now trims AI populations automatically when it gets crowded.
Version matching
The client checks its version against the server, and the server list filters by build. After every patch, a custom server has to update before players can join. If you run one, budget for that, see our fix for a QANGA server version mismatch.
When your group needs its own server
A custom server makes sense when:
- You want to play co-op with specific friends, not strangers.
- You want PvE, or no item loss, which official servers do not offer.
- Your group plays at different times and wants the world available to everyone.
- You run a community and want your own rules and events.
It is less worth it for a solo player who just wants to try multiplayer once: an official server does that.

Running one
You can run the free dedicated server on your own machine, see how to host a QANGA dedicated server, or rent one. A QANGA server from GamezServers has the session name, map and auto update in the panel, config and save files in the file manager, and one click backups for before big patches. It stays online without anyone's PC, and a group can split the cost between up to 10 people, each paying their share.
FAQ
Can I play QANGA co-op with friends?
Yes, on a server. Use a custom server for a private group, since there is no way to host from a single player game.
Does QANGA have PvE servers?
Custom servers can switch to PvE mode, which the developers still call experimental. Official servers are open PvP worlds.
Do you lose items when you die in QANGA?
It depends on the server. Admins choose whether items drop on death.
Is there a player limit on QANGA servers?
No fixed limit since early in early access. Server memory and performance set the practical limit.
Skip the setup. Your own QANGA server.
