How to log in as admin on a Holdfast: Nations At War server with rc login, then kick, ban, slay, broadcast and change maps from the F1 console.

To use admin commands in Holdfast: Nations At War, open the console with F1 and type rc login followed by the server_admin_password from your server's config file. After that, commands start with rc: rc playerlist shows player IDs, rc serverAdmin kick <id>, rc serverAdmin ban <id> and rc serverAdmin slay <id> deal with problem players, rc broadcast <message> talks to the whole server, and rc mapRotation <number> jumps to a map in your rotation. rc help lists everything your build supports.

Step 1: Set an admin password

Admin access comes from one line in your server config file:

server_admin_password ChangeThisNow

If the line starts with #, it is switched off and nobody can log in. Remove the #, pick a strong password and restart the server. Share the password only with officers who need it; anyone who has it has full control.

Step 2: Log in

  1. Join your server.
  2. Press F1 to open the console.
  3. Type:
rc login ChangeThisNow

The console confirms the login. You stay logged in until you leave the server, so every officer logs in each session.

Finding player IDs

Most commands act on a player ID, not a name, which avoids mistakes with regiment tags and similar names.

rc playerlist

lists everyone on the server with their ID. rc playerlist ingame limits it to players who have spawned in. The scoreboard (Tab) also shows player IDs.

Player management commands

Command What it does
rc playerlist Lists players and their IDs
rc serverAdmin kick <id> Kicks the player; they can rejoin
rc serverAdmin ban <id> Bans the player from the server
rc serverAdmin slay <id> Kills the player on the spot
rc broadcast <message> Shows an admin message to everyone

Adding a reason after the ID helps the player understand what happened, and keeps your admin logs readable. Mute options for chat and voice also exist; check rc help for the exact names in your build.

Server and map commands

Command What it does
rc mapRotation <number> Switches to that entry in your rotation, counting from 1
rc get Shows current server variables
rc set <variable> <value> Changes a server variable for the current session
rc help Lists available commands

rc mapRotation is the one officers use most: to restart an event map, jump to the block that holds it. The numbers follow the order of the !map_rotation start blocks in your config. Settings changed with rc set last until the server restarts. To make a change permanent, put it in the config file. See Holdfast config and map rotation explained.

Where bans and logs are stored

The server keeps bans and mutes in text files next to the server files, typically bannedplayers.txt, mutedplayerschat.txt and mutedplayersvoip.txt. To lift a ban, stop the server, remove the line and start it again. Admin actions, chat, player logins and scores can be written to separate log files too. When someone in another regiment disputes a slay after an event, the admin log shows who did what and when.

Running admin on event nights

A few habits keep events fair and calm:

  • Agree the rules first. Write the event rules in server_welcome_message or your Discord, so a slay never surprises anyone.
  • Use broadcasts before action. rc broadcast a warning, then slay or kick if it continues.
  • One admin per side. Give the opposing regiment's officer an admin login for the night, so both sides see it is fair.
  • Change the password afterwards if you shared it with guests.

Troubleshooting admin access

A few problems come up again and again with Holdfast admin logins:

  • The console does not open. F1 is the default key. If you rebound it, check the game's key bindings for the console.
  • rc login says the password is wrong. Passwords are read exactly as written in the config file, including capital letters. Look for a trailing space after the password, which is easy to miss in a text editor.
  • Commands do nothing after login. Make sure each command starts with rc. Without it, the game treats the line as a local client command.
  • A second officer cannot log in. Everyone uses the same server_admin_password, so check they have the current one after you changed it.
  • The server you are on is not the one you configured. Regiments with a public and an event server sometimes edit one config file and join the other. Check the server name in the browser matches the config you edited.

If none of these apply, restart the server and watch the console as it starts. A config file that fails to load falls back to defaults, and the default admin password line is commented out.

Hosted servers

On a GamezServers Holdfast server, the config file with your server_admin_password is in the file manager, and so are the ban, mute and admin action log files, so you can read logs or lift a ban from the browser. The panel has an Admin Password field, but panel settings are only partly written into the config file, so set server_admin_password in the config file itself to be sure it is the one in use. If you are still setting up, start with how to host a Holdfast server, and for keeping a regiment server invite only, see how to set a password on a game server.
