On this page

The best racing games with dedicated servers in 2026 are Assetto Corsa for sim racing and freeroam with AI traffic, BeamMP for soft body crash physics with friends in BeamNG.drive, Wreckfest for demolition racing on 24 car grids, and Trackmania for club time attack rooms. Wreckfest 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2 convoys, KissMP and SuperTuxKart round it out. Racing servers are light, so most run on 2 to 4 GB.

How we picked

Every game here has a dedicated server you can run yourself or rent, and a reason to want one: a lobby that is always up, your own car and track list, league rules, or a group that does not want to rely on one player's upload. We also note what each server costs to run, because racing servers are some of the cheapest to host.

1. Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa is Kunos Simulazioni's 2014 driving sim, still one of the most played racing games on Steam thanks to its physics and an enormous modding scene. Online it is two worlds: organized racing on a shared grid, and freeroam servers where drivers cruise highways, run touge, drift or chase each other through AI traffic.

Our servers run AssettoServer, the community server behind most busy freeroam lobbies. It adds AI traffic that follows the map's splines, dynamic weather through Custom Shaders Patch, Steam ticket checks and plugins. Race and qualifying sessions exist but are marked experimental, so it suits practice and freeroam best.

What to know:

  • Cars, track and traffic are set in server_cfg.ini, entry_list.ini and extra_cfg.yml.
  • The easy way to load content is Content Manager's server pack, uploaded over SFTP.
  • Every driver needs the same car and track versions. Content Manager shows what is missing.
  • Grid size is capped by the track's pit boxes and 25 slots, not memory.

2. BeamMP

BeamMP is a community made multiplayer mod for BeamNG.drive, the soft body physics driving sim. It is not made by BeamNG, and every player needs BeamNG.drive on Steam plus the free BeamMP launcher. Once connected, the group can do drag races, crash tests, police chases, offroad trails or roleplay towns, and with physics this good, a few friends smashing into each other is enough for an evening.

The server needs a free key from keymaster.beammp.com. Mod cars and maps go in Resources/Client and download to players automatically, and Lua plugins in Resources/Server add permissions, whitelists and admin tools. The server is light because physics runs on each player's PC. If players lag or teleport, lower Max Cars per player rather than adding RAM.

3. Wreckfest

Wreckfest is Bugbear's demolition racer, where cars bend and tear and a race is as much about putting a rival into the wall as crossing the line. Lobbies switch between track races, figure 8 crossovers and last car standing derbies. It came out in 2018 and still has a loyal online crowd.

A dedicated server gives your group an always on lobby with your rules. Everything is in server_config.cfg: max players, bots, mode, track, laps, car class restrictions, damage and the event loop. Two tips:

  • By default the first player to join becomes owner. Set owner_disabled=1 and list your SteamID64 in admin_steam_ids.
  • Bots count toward the 24 car cap, so lower bots if real drivers cannot get in.

CPU matters more than memory once 24 cars start crashing, since every collision is simulated on the server.

4. Trackmania

Trackmania is Nadeo's racer built around precision driving and player made tracks. Cars pass through each other as ghosts, so a server is about chasing times rather than crashing. Clubs run time attack, rounds, cups and knockout events on their own map packs.

The server signs in with a dedicated server account made on trackmania.com, not your Ubisoft login. Players join through a club room set to Use Dedicated Server. Maps must also be listed in your match settings file. Dedicated server rooms can only be joined from the PC version. A full 32 player room runs on 2 GB, and the XML-RPC port works with controllers like PyPlanet and EvoSC.

5. Wreckfest 2

Wreckfest 2 has been in Early Access on Steam since March 2025, built on a new physics engine where cars come apart panel by panel. Grids hold up to 24 cars including bots, a cap set by Bugbear. Configuration is JSON: server_config.scnf for the server, .becl files for the event loop, server_cup_config.ccnl for cups with points tables, and server_privilege.sprv for admins. Keep auto update on while it is in Early Access.

6. Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator

Not racing, but the most social driving game there is. SCS Software's official Convoy mode puts up to 8 players in the same world, taking jobs side by side and chatting over the CB. A dedicated convoy server means anyone can join without waiting for one person to host. The server needs server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat, exported from your game with export_server_packages, and every player needs the same DLC and mods listed in them. 7. KissMP

KissMP is a free, open source alternative multiplayer mod for BeamNG.drive, still updated with release 0.8.0 in 2026. It uses QUIC networking with lag compensation, sends server mods to players automatically and has voice chat built in. Settings live in config.json. KissMP and BeamMP are separate, so players cannot cross between them.

8. SuperTuxKart

SuperTuxKart is the free, open source kart racer, and its online mode runs normal races, time trials, battles, soccer and capture the flag. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, costs nothing, and makes an easy pick for LAN nights or a family group. A lobby of up to 24 runs on 1 to 2 GB.

Which racing game should my group pick?

  • Serious sim racing or freeroam cruising: Assetto Corsa with AssettoServer.
  • Crashes, chases and physics silliness: BeamMP.
  • Contact racing and derbies: Wreckfest, or Wreckfest 2 if you are happy with Early Access.
  • A club chasing times on custom tracks: Trackmania.
  • A chill night with friends: a Euro Truck Simulator 2 convoy.
  • Free for everyone, any device: SuperTuxKart.

FAQ

What is the best racing game with dedicated servers?

Assetto Corsa for sim racing and freeroam, and Wreckfest for demolition racing. Both let you set your own cars, tracks and rules on a server.

How much RAM does a racing game server need?

Very little compared with survival games. Most racing servers run on 1 to 4 GB, because there is no persistent world and physics often runs on each player's PC.

Can you host a BeamNG.drive multiplayer server?

Yes, through BeamMP or KissMP, which are community multiplayer mods. Every player needs BeamNG.drive plus the mod's client.

How many drivers can join an Assetto Corsa server?

Up to 25 on our setup, limited by the number of pit boxes the track has.

Do racing game servers support crossplay?

Mostly no. Wreckfest servers are PC only, and Trackmania dedicated rooms can only be joined from PC. SuperTuxKart works across Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.
