Common problems
The server will not start on a map it does not have. Upload custom maps first, then set them as the Default Map in the panel.
Big map packs download slowly through the game. Share the pack with your regulars so they can unzip it into their own svencoop_addon folder before joining.
No console on the ~ key? Turn it on under Options > Keyboard > Advanced first.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
Modding your Sven Co-op server
Sven Co-op runs on community maps, most of them collected on the Sven Co-op map database, plus AngelScript plugins that change rules and add admin tools. Everything goes in through the file manager or SFTP.
Sven Co-op server hosting, explained
Sven Co-op started as a Half-Life mod and is now a free standalone game on Steam. Nobody fights each other here. Everyone on the server teams up against scripted monsters, solves puzzles and pushes through maps together, often with a few people sent back to hold a door. The game ships with co-op versions of Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift and They Hunger, and twenty years of community maps sit on top of that.
Most servers are run by small communities and friend groups who want a fixed home for campaign nights. A dedicated server keeps the rotation running so people can drop into a map at any hour, and it is the only way to run a curated list of custom maps. Regulars tend to stick to one server they trust, so a stable address and a sensible map cycle matter more than anything flashy.
In the panel you set the server name, password, Steam region, max players and the starting map. Map packs, models and sounds go into svencoop_addon over SFTP, plugins go into the scripts folder, and server.cfg and mapcycle.txt are in the file manager for rules like survival mode and the map order. The live console handles map changes and kicks on the fly.
This is an old engine and the server is light. A friend group on the bundled campaigns runs fine on 2 GB. A community server with big custom map packs is happier on 4 GB, and 6 GB covers a full 32 slots with a long rotation and plenty of plugins. Most groups never go past the middle plan. You can change plans in the panel whenever you like.

Common questions
How many players can a Sven Co-op server hold?
Between 2 and 32, set with Max Players in the panel. The game default is 12, and many maps get crowded above that, so match the number to the maps you run.
Is Sven Co-op free?
Yes. The game is free on Steam, so your friends only need to install it to join.
How do I add custom maps?
Upload the map files into the svencoop_addon folder with SFTP or the file manager, add them to mapcycle.txt, then change map from the console or set one as the Default Map.
Can I run plugins?
Yes. Sven Co-op uses AngelScript plugins. Put them in the scripts plugins folder, list them in default_plugins.txt and restart the server.
How do players connect?
Open the console and type connect followed by your server address. After the first visit they can add it to Steam favorites and join from the server browser.
How do I make myself an admin?
Add your Steam ID to admins.txt in the server folder through the file manager and restart. That alone unlocks cheat commands when sv_cheats is 2. For kicks and map changes use RCON with the admin password from your panel, or install the AFBase admin plugin.
Can I keep the server private?
Set a Password in the panel and only people you give it to can get in. Leave it empty for an open server.
How much RAM does a Sven Co-op server need?
Very little. 2 GB is enough for the bundled campaigns, and 4 GB covers most communities running custom map packs.
Is GamezServers affiliated with Sven Co-op?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated Sven Co-op server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
