How to join your Dragonwilds server

Start RuneScape: Dragonwilds on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2.

Open the Worlds screen and go to the Public tab.

Search for the exact world name of the server. It is case sensitive, and an uploaded world uses its save file name.

Enter the world password if there is one, pick your character and join.
Common problems
Steam invites do not connect
Inviting friends through Steam does not work for dedicated servers yet. Search the world name in the Public tab instead.
"Crossplay is not enabled" error
Set the date and time on your PC or console to update automatically, then try again. On Xbox also allow crossplay under Settings, Account, Privacy and online safety.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds server hosting, explained
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is built around a persistent world in Ashenfall, and in normal co-op that world only exists while the host is playing. A dedicated server keeps it running on its own, so the group can log in whenever suits them, build the base together and pick up quests without waiting for one person to go online. Jagex ships the server as a free tool for 64 bit Windows and Linux, and it holds up to 6 players, two more than an in game hosted world.
Setting it up yourself means installing the server with SteamCMD, filling in your Owner ID, server name, world name and admin password in DedicatedServer.ini, and forwarding UDP port 7777. Since the 1.0 release on 15 September 2026, dedicated worlds support crossplay, which is the only way to give a PlayStation, Xbox or Switch 2 group an always online world, because consoles cannot run the server themselves. With us you paste your Player ID at checkout and we fill in the rest.
Jagex recommends 2 GB of RAM plus 1 GB per player, which is how our plans are sized: 4 GB for a duo, 6 GB for four players and 8 GB for a full world of six. You can move a world you started in single player or co-op by uploading its .sav file, and take a backup before every big boss fight so a bad wipe never costs you your progress.

Common questions
How many players can join?
Up to 6 players on a dedicated server, compared with 4 when a player hosts the world in game.
Can console players join?
Yes. Since the 1.0 update, dedicated servers support crossplay and have it switched on. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 find the world by name in the Public tab of the Worlds screen.
Can I move my existing world to the server?
Yes. On Windows your worlds are .sav files in AppData/Local/RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames. Stop the server, upload the file to RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames with the file manager and start it again. Players then search for the file name without .sav. Keep a copy of the original.
Can I start a PvP, creative or custom world?
Yes. Create the world in game with the settings you want, enter it once and leave, then upload its .sav file to the server the same way as an existing world.
Where do I find my Player ID?
In game, at the bottom of the Settings menu, with a button to copy it. The server needs it to start, and it makes you the owner of the world.
Do my friends need to own the game?
Yes. Everyone needs their own copy of RuneScape: Dragonwilds on their platform. The server itself is free, so there is nothing extra to buy.
How do I get admin controls in game?
Your server has an admin password in its settings. In game, open the pause menu, Settings, Server Management and enter it. Anyone with the password is an admin until you change it, and admins can remove players who are online.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
