A lobby that is there whenever your group wants a game, with no one hosting from home or forwarding ports.
Public or private
List it in the in-game browser with Public Server, or keep it hidden and share the address with a password from the panel.
Bots in the lobby
Fill empty slots with AI, or turn on Enable Singleplayer so one person can practice alone against bots on the server.
Runs the stable release
The server runs the stable release players download, and support can switch it to a playtest tag.

Common problems
Players must run the exact OpenRA release the server runs. The server runs the stable release. If your group installed a playtest, email support@gamezservers.com with the tag.
The first player to join an empty dedicated lobby becomes its admin and picks the map. If they leave, the next longest connected player takes over.
A private server is invisible in the browser. Keep Public Server off and have players use Direct Connect with 203.0.113.24.
Want custom maps? Publish or pick them on the OpenRA Resource Center, and clients download them automatically when the admin selects them.
Server not responding
Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.
Use the server address
Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.
No port forwarding or firewall changes
Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.
OpenRA - Tiberian Dawn server hosting, explained
Tiberian Dawn is where Command & Conquer started: the Global Defense Initiative against the Brotherhood of Nod, fighting over tiberium fields that slowly poison the map. OpenRA's version keeps the factions, units and feel, then adds the things the 1995 original never had: attack move, modern unit control, replays, observers and proper online lobbies. Games are skirmishes on classic and community maps, from tense 1v1s to team games where someone always forgets anti air.
A dedicated server keeps that lobby up for your group around the clock. Nobody hosts from their own PC, nobody fights a router for port forwarding, and a dropped host no longer ends the evening. Small clans, coaching groups and friends who play a few games every weekend get a fixed place with a name they recognize in the browser, or a private address only they know.
From the panel you set the server name, public listing, password, GeoIP country flags, anonymized IPs and Enable Singleplayer. The server runs the current stable OpenRA release, which is what players get from openra.net, and support can set a playtest build if your group needs one. OpenRA is in active development, and a 2026 playtest brought random map generators and an HD art option for Tiberian Dawn, so being able to match the build your players run matters. In the lobby, the first player in is admin: they pick the map, add bots and kick players.
An OpenRA server mostly passes orders between clients, which costs very little. One Tiberian Dawn lobby runs on 1 GB, and 2 GB is plenty for team games with spectators. There is no reason to buy a bigger plan for OpenRA itself. If the group only plays on weekends, Sleep when empty stops the server after 4 days with nobody on and wakes with one click.

Common questions
How many players can a Tiberian Dawn server take?
The map sets the slot count, so pick a map with the number of players you want. Spectators can join on top of that.
Is OpenRA Tiberian Dawn free?
Yes. OpenRA is free and open source, and on first launch it installs the game content it needs. The server is installed for you.
Why can my friend not join?
Almost always a version mismatch. Everyone must run the same OpenRA release as the server, so check players are on the current stable release.
Who is admin on the server?
The first player to join an empty lobby. They choose the map and settings and can kick players. If they leave, admin passes to the next player who joined earliest.
Can we play against bots?
Yes. The lobby admin can add AI players to open slots, and Enable Singleplayer lets one person start a game alone against bots.
Does the server support the HD art?
Art is chosen on each player's own client. The HD option arrived in a 2026 playtest, so ask support to move the server to that playtest if your group wants it.
How do I keep my server private?
Turn off Public Server so it stays out of the browser, set a password, and share the address for Direct Connect.
Is OpenRA affiliated with EA?
No. OpenRA is an independent open source project that recreates the classic games. It is not made or endorsed by Electronic Arts.
Is GamezServers affiliated with OpenRA - Tiberian Dawn?
No. You rent and control your own dedicated OpenRA - Tiberian Dawn server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.
Can my friends and I split the cost?
Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.
Can I build a custom plan?
Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.
Can I pay once instead of a subscription?
Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.
How fast is setup, really?
Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
