Common problems

Module Name must match the file name without .mod. Custom modules go in the server's user/modules folder, official ones are already included.

Players can't join? Their game build must match the server. Leave Game Version on latest, or set it to the exact build your group runs.

Missing hak pack errors mean players need the same haks and TLK installed locally, unless you set up NWSync for automatic downloads.

Set Server Vault Mode to server characters for a persistent world, so characters live on the server and can't be edited offline.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Modding your Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition server

Twenty years of community content still works in Enhanced Edition: modules, hak packs and tilesets from the Neverwinter Vault and the Steam Workshop. Upload them to the server's user folder.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition server hosting, explained

Neverwinter Nights runs on the D&D 3rd edition rules, and its multiplayer has lasted over twenty years because players and Dungeon Masters build their own modules. Some servers are small campaigns run by a DM for a regular group, like a tabletop night with the dice rolled for you. Others are persistent worlds with dozens of players, custom content and roleplay communities that have been running for years. Beamdog's Enhanced Edition keeps all of it working on modern PCs.

A dedicated server is how persistent worlds exist at all. Players log in at any hour, characters stay on the server, and DMs drop in to run events. For a DM campaign, a hosted server means the group doesn't depend on the DM's home connection, and the module and saves stay safe between sessions. Builders also get a stable place to test module updates with the team before players see them.

The panel exposes a long list of real server options: module name and save slot, max clients, minimum and maximum level, PvP mode, server vault mode, legal character and item level enforcement, difficulty, autosave interval, pause and play, one party mode, reload when empty, public listing, and separate player and DM passwords. Custom modules and hak packs go up through the file manager or SFTP into the user folder.

The game server itself is modest. A DM campaign for a small party runs on 2 GB. Persistent worlds with big modules, lots of areas, heavy scripting and 30 or more players online are where 4 GB makes sense. Very large worlds with stacks of custom content can justify 8 GB, but most servers never need it. You can change plans any time, and the bill is prorated.

Common questions

How many players can a NWN:EE server hold?

Max clients defaults to 96 in our setup. Most DM campaigns run 4 to 8 players, and persistent worlds range from a dozen to many dozens.

How do players connect?

In Multiplayer, open the server browser and click Direct Connect. Enter the address and player password, then pick or create a character.

How do I load a custom module?

Upload the .mod file to the user/modules folder and set Module Name to its file name without the extension. Upload any hak packs to user/hak.

What does Server Vault Mode do?

It decides where characters live. Local mode lets players bring characters from their own PC, server mode keeps them on the server, which most persistent worlds use to stop tampering.

Can I run games as a Dungeon Master?

Yes. Set a DM password in the panel and connect with the DM client using that password to run the session live.

Can I turn PvP off?

Yes. PvP Mode has three options: none, party, or full. Party only allows fighting within a party.

Does the world keep its state when everyone leaves?

Yes, unless you turn on Reload When Empty, which resets the module when the last player logs off.

Do players need the hak packs?

Yes, they need the same haks and TLK files as the server, either installed by hand or delivered with NWSync if you set it up.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
