Can mobile and console players join a Terraria dedicated server? What works today, what Crossplay Phase One (1.4.6) adds for consoles, and how to set it up.

Terraria crossplay on a dedicated server already works between PC and mobile: if both are on the same version, a phone can join a PC server by IP address and port. Console players cannot join yet. Re-Logic's next update, 1.4.6 (Crossplay Phase One), brings join by IP to PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. It is planned, not released, as of 3 October 2026.

Does Terraria have crossplay?

Partly, today. Re-Logic and console and mobile developer DR Studios explained the plan in the February 2026 State of the Game. Because PC, mobile and the dedicated server all share the same code, "crossplay has been live on mobile, PC and server for many years now", as long as everyone is on the same release version. What has been missing is console support, because cross platform play on consoles needs approval from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

Platform Can join a PC dedicated server?
PC (Steam, GOG) Yes
Mobile (iOS, Android) Yes, by IP and port, on the same version
PlayStation, Xbox, Switch Not yet. Planned with Crossplay Phase One (1.4.6)
tModLoader (PC) Only tModLoader servers, PC only

What is Terraria Crossplay Phase One?

Phase One is "cross platform" play by address. In DR Studios' words: "If you know the IP address and port number of your host, you can type it into any client to connect to their session. This is the functionality that we plan to initially release on console to complete Phase 1."

For consoles that means:

  • A Remote section listing servers you have connected to before, "usually dedicated servers that you host yourself or have rented".
  • A Local section that lists sessions on your home network.
  • UPnP support when hosting from a console or mobile device, which tries to open a port on your router automatically.

The multiplayer join and host screens were already redesigned in 1.4.5 to support this.

When does Terraria crossplay come to consoles?

There is no date yet. After 1.4.5.7 released on PC on 19 August 2026, Re-Logic said that once the console and mobile versions of 1.4.5.7 were out and stable, "we will be pushing directly into Terraria 1.4.6, which will be Phase One of Crossplay" (August 2026 State of the Game). In the September 2026 State of the Game they added that "the finishing touches are being put on Crossplay Phase One" and that they expect to submit it to the console platforms "in the near future". Console certification takes extra time after submission, so treat it as coming soon, not dated.

What is Crossplay Phase Two?

Phase Two is "cross network" play: Re-Logic wants anyone hosting to be able to "share their session ID or join code with any player on any platform on any network". That would remove the need to know an IP address and port. Re-Logic says it will try to get Phase Two out as soon as possible after Phase One, with no date. Cross progression, cross saves and mod support on consoles have not been confirmed.

How do mobile players join a PC Terraria server?

  1. Match versions. The server and the phone must run the same Terraria version. Mobile updates go through app store certification, so mobile can trail PC by days or weeks. If the PC server has already updated and mobile has not, the phone cannot join until it catches up.
  2. Open multiplayer on the phone and use the option to join a remote server by address.
  3. Enter the server's IP and port separately, for example IP 203.0.113.10 and port 7777.
  4. Enter the password if the server has one, pick a character and join.

If it fails with a version message, see the Terraria version mismatch fix. If it times out, see Terraria can't connect to server.

How do you get a dedicated server ready for crossplay?

To be ready for consoles when Phase One lands:

  • Run a vanilla server. tModLoader is PC only and players need tModLoader to join it, so a modded server will not support console or mobile players.
  • TShock should work for PC and mobile because players join with the normal game client. TShock 6.2.1 supports the current 1.4.5.8 server. Whether TShock needs an update for 1.4.6 will depend on what changes in that release.
  • Keep the server on the newest version your players have, but no newer. When PC updates before consoles, a server that updates immediately locks out console and mobile players until their version arrives. Holding the server back on the older version until everyone has the update keeps the whole group playing.
  • Use a fixed address. Console players will type the IP and port in by hand, and the Remote list remembers servers they joined before. A hosted server's address does not change. A home IP can.
  • Open TCP port 7777 if you self host. Our port forwarding guide covers the router side.

Can console players join a Steam hosted world?

No. Host and Play through Steam uses Steam's own invites and friends list, which consoles cannot use. Phase One crossplay works by IP and port, which is exactly what a dedicated server gives you. That is why a dedicated server is the most reliable way to play Terraria across PC, mobile and, once Phase One ships, consoles.

Hosting a crossplay Terraria server with GamezServers

Our Terraria servers have a fixed address and port shown at the top of the control panel, so mobile players can join today and console players can join as soon as their platform gets Phase One. Servers do not update by themselves, so you decide when to move to a new version and can wait until every platform has it, then press Update game. Plans are 2 GB for 4.99 USD, 4 GB for 9.99 USD and 6 GB for 14.99 USD a month, with 50% off the first month. See Terraria server hosting or the Terraria quick start.

FAQ

Is Terraria crossplay between PC and console?

Not yet. PC and mobile can already play together on the same version. Console crossplay is planned for Terraria 1.4.6, Crossplay Phase One, which has no release date yet.

Can mobile players join a PC Terraria server?

Yes. If the phone and the server run the same version, the phone can join by entering the server's IP address and port.

Can Xbox or PS5 players join a Terraria dedicated server?

Not until Crossplay Phase One reaches their console. It is designed around joining by IP and port, which works with dedicated servers.

Will tModLoader servers support crossplay?

No. tModLoader is a separate PC game on Steam, and only tModLoader players can join a tModLoader server.

Do I need a dedicated server for Terraria crossplay?

For Phase One, you need a host that players can reach by IP and port. A dedicated server is the easiest way to give everyone a stable address that is online all the time.
