Make yourself admin on a Rising World server with Server_Admins or makeadmin, then use the console commands for kick, ban, teleport, items, time and weather.

To become admin on a Rising World server (the current Unity version), add your Steam ID to Server_Admins in server.properties and restart, or type makeadmin <yourname> in the server console while you are online. In game, open the console with the key left of 1 (the ` key on US keyboards, ^ on German ones) and use commands such as kick, ban, tp, goto, item, time, weather and gm. Type help <command> in the console to see the exact parameters of any command.

The command names below come from the community Rising World wiki console page, which tracks the current version. The old Java edition used a different set (for example setgametype), so ignore guides written for it unless your server runs the Java Legacy type.

Step 1: Find your UID

Rising World identifies players by their UID, which is their 64 bit Steam ID, the 17 digit number starting with 7656119. Two easy ways to get it:

  • Open your Steam profile, click your name, choose Account details, and copy the Steam ID shown under your account name.
  • Join the server and watch the server console. Player connections are logged with their UID.

Once you are admin, playerinfo <uid> shows details for any player, which is handy when two people have similar names.

Step 2: Make yourself admin

Option A: server.properties (permanent)

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Open server.properties in the server folder.
  3. Put your UID in Server_Admins. Separate several admins with semicolons:
Server_Admins=76561198000000000;76561198000000001
  1. Save and start the server.

On a GamezServers server, edit the file in the file manager. Our panel rewrites a handful of keys on every start (server name, password, world name, game mode and the RCON settings), but Server_Admins is not one of them, so your list stays.

Option B: makeadmin (quick)

With the player online, run this in the server console (the live console in our panel works):

makeadmin PlayerName

revokeadmin PlayerName takes it away again. Both also accept the UID instead of the name.

Option C: permission groups

Admin status is one part of a finer permission system. Group files in the server's permissions folder define what each group may do (kick, ban, teleport, fly, god mode and so on), and Permissions_DefaultNewPlayerPermissionGroup in server.properties sets the group new players land in. Move a player into a group with:

setplayergroup PlayerName moderator

spg is the short form, and setofflineplayergroup <uid> <group> (or sopg) works for someone who is offline. After editing the group files, run reloadpermissions so you do not need a restart. The group must exist as a file before you can assign it.

Player management commands

Command What it does
kick <name/uid> [reason] Removes a player. They can rejoin
ban <name/uid> <duration> [reason] Bans for a number of seconds. Use -1 for permanent
offlineban <uid> <duration> [reason] Same, for a player who is not online
unban <uid> Lifts a ban. Needs the UID, not the name
makeadmin <name/uid> Gives admin rights
revokeadmin <name/uid> Removes admin rights
setplayergroup <name/uid> <group> Moves a player to a permission group
deleteplayer <uid> Deletes a player's data and kicks them if online. Their character starts over
heal [name] Heals you, or the named player
kill [name] Kills you, or the named player

Examples:

kick Griefer123 Breaking the build rules
ban Griefer123 86400 One day ban
ban 76561198000000002 -1 Permanent ban
unban 76561198000000002

The ban duration trips people up: ban Name 7 is seven seconds, not seven days. A day is 86400, a week is 604800.

Teleport commands

Command What it does
tp [point/player] Opens the teleport menu, or teleports to a saved point or a player
teleport [point/player] The longer form, with more options
goto <x> <y> <z> Teleports you to world coordinates
gethere <player> Pulls a player to your position
coordinates Shows where you are standing
mark then gotomark Save a spot, then jump back to it
gotospawn Back to your own spawn
gotodefaultspawn To the world's default spawn
gotodeathposition To where you last died
gotosurface Out of a cave or hole, up to the surface
setspawn Sets the world's default spawn where you stand

gethere is the one you will use most as an admin: a new player is stuck, run gethere Name and they are standing next to you.

Item commands

Command What it does
item <itemname> <amount> [variant] Adds an item to your inventory
object <objectname> <amount> [variant] Adds furniture and other placeable objects
clothing <name> <amount> [color] Adds a piece of clothing
plant <plantname> <amount> Adds seeds or plants
clearinventory Empties your inventory
setspawninventory Saves your current inventory as the starting kit for new players

Item names are internal names, not the display names, so item will reject "Iron Pickaxe" typed with a space. Run help item to see what the console accepts. setspawninventory is a nice touch for a community server: lay out a starter kit in your inventory, run it once, and every new player starts with it.

Time, weather and season

Command What it does
time <hours> <minutes> Sets the time of day, for example time 8 0. settime and tod do the same
settimespeed <speed> Day and night speed. Default is 1.75, lower makes days longer
weather <type> [instant] Changes the weather, for example weather clear or weather rain
season <name> spring, summer, autumn or winter
skipseason Jumps to the first day of the next season
date <day> Sets the in game date

Add instant to a weather change to skip the transition. Run help weather for the weather types your build accepts.

Game mode

gm 1
gm 0

gm, gamemode and setgamemode all take 0 for Survival and 1 for Creative. They switch your own mode, which is how admins build big projects on a survival server without farming every log.

This is not the same as the world's game mode. The Game Mode setting in our panel (or World_GameMode in server.properties) only applies when a new world is created. To turn a survival server into a creative one, set the mode and a new world name, as the Rising World hosting guide explains.

Server commands

Command What it does
yell <message> Broadcasts a message to everyone
restart <seconds> Restarts the server after a countdown, with warnings for players
shutdown Stops the server
saveall Forces a full save to disk
worldbackup Writes a world backup
reloadpermissions Reloads the permission files
noclip Lets you fly through terrain and walls
spawnvehicle <name> Spawns a vehicle in front of you
cleanup <type> Clears debris, dropped items and similar clutter

A good habit before you change anything big: yell Restart in 5 minutes, then restart 300.

Running commands without joining: RCON

You can run admin commands without being in the game. On GamezServers, turn on [Advanced] Enable RCON in the panel, set an [Advanced] RCON Password of at least six characters and restart. On our servers RCON listens on your game port plus one (game on 25565 means RCON on 25566), already open for you, while a home server uses 4253 by default. Connect with any Rising World compatible RCON tool using your server's address, that port and the password. The panel's live console also accepts server commands such as makeadmin, kick, ban and yell with no extra setup.

Common problems

  • Commands refused after adding yourself: the server was not restarted, or the UID has a typo. Check it against your Steam account details.
  • Command not recognized: you are reading a Java edition list. Use help or commands in the console to list what your build has.
  • Ban did nothing: you set a duration in days. Durations are seconds.
  • unban with a name fails: it needs the UID.
  • Admin lost after moving the server: admins live in server.properties, not in the world folder. Add them again, as how to move a Rising World save to a server notes.

Admin without the hosting chores

If you want to spend your evenings building rather than keeping a PC on, a Rising World server on GamezServers gives you the live console for commands, RCON switched on from the panel, the file manager for server.properties and permission files, and one click backups before you hand out admin rights. New customers get 50% off the first month.
