To give items on a Rust server, open the console (F1) as an admin and type inventory.give <shortname> <amount> for yourself, or run inventory.giveto "<player>" <shortname> <amount> from the server console to give to someone else. Use inventory.giveall <shortname> <amount> for everyone online. Items are named by their short name, like rifle.ak or metal.refined, not by the name you see in the game. This guide covers the commands, the short names people look for most, and the mistakes that make the command do nothing.
Before you start
You need to be an owner or moderator on the server. If you are not yet, the admin guide shows how to add your SteamID64 with ownerid and save it with server.writecfg.
There are two places to type commands:
| Where | Who it runs as | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| F1 console in the game | You, as an admin | Giving to yourself |
| Server console or RCON | The server | Giving to anyone, even when you are not in the game |
Commands do not use a slash in either console. Chat commands that start with / come from plugins, covered at the end.
The give commands
inventory.give rifle.ak 1
inventory.giveto "PlayerName" ammo.rifle 128
inventory.giveto 76561198000000000 metal.refined 500
inventory.giveall wood 5000
inventory.giveid <itemid> 1
inventory.givegives to whoever runs it, so it only works from the F1 console in the game.inventory.givetotakes a player name or SteamID64 first. Quote names that contain spaces. The SteamID64 is safer when two players have similar names.inventory.giveallgives to every player online at that moment.inventory.giveiduses the numeric item ID instead of the short name. Short names are easier to remember, so most admins never need it.
If you leave out the amount, you get 1. Large amounts are split into stacks, and anything that does not fit drops at the player's feet. Rust also posts a line in chat naming who received what, so players can see admin gives.

Practical examples
A starter kit for a new player on a PvE or community server:
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" stone.pickaxe 1
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" stonehatchet 1
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" building.planner 1
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" hammer 1
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" wood 2000
inventory.giveto "NewPlayer" stones 2000
Replacing loot after a server crash wiped someone's inventory: ask what they lost, then give it back with giveto and their SteamID64. Keep a note in your admin log, since repeated refunds are a common way people try to farm admins.
Event prize for everyone online:
inventory.giveall supply.signal 1
Why the command does nothing
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
Command not found or no reply |
You are not owner or moderator, or server.writecfg was never run so your admin was lost on restart |
Invalid item or nothing appears |
The short name is wrong or was changed in an update |
| Player not found | Name misspelled, not quoted, or player offline. Use the SteamID64 |
| Works in F1 but not in the server console | inventory.give needs a player to give to. Use giveto from the server console |
| Items vanish | Inventory full, items dropped on the ground and despawned |
Kits and chat commands with plugins
For anything you do often, an Oxide or Carbon plugin is easier than typing short names:
- Kits lets you save a loadout from your own inventory and hand it out with
/kit <name>, with cooldowns and limits per player. - Give adds chat commands like
/giveand/givetowith permissions, so moderators can hand out items without full owner rights.
Install them as shown in the Rust plugin guide and grant permissions to your admin group. On a server with plugins, the vanilla console commands above still work alongside them.
Doing it from the panel
On a GamezServers Rust server, the live console in the control panel runs as the server, so inventory.giveto and giveall work from your browser even when you are not in the game. The panel also has buttons for making someone admin, saving admins and bans, kicking and banning, and you can switch the server to the Oxide or Carbon type to add kit plugins. If you are still running your server at home, the Rust game page shows what a hosted server includes.

FAQ
How do I give myself items in Rust?
Be an owner or moderator, press F1 and type inventory.give <shortname> <amount>, for example inventory.give rifle.ak 1. No slash.
How do I give items to another player?
From the server console or F1 run inventory.giveto "PlayerName" <shortname> <amount>. The SteamID64 works in place of the name and avoids typos.
Do players see when an admin gives items?
Yes. Rust posts a chat line naming the player and the item. That keeps admin gives visible on community servers.
Can I give blueprints with a command?
Not to other players with vanilla commands. Give the item itself, or use a plugin built for blueprints.
Skip the setup. Your own Rust server.
