What comes set up on a Icarus server

Persistent open world

An open world prospect stays on the server, so anyone in the crew can check crops or grind tech while the others are offline.

Crew of eight

Icarus is co-op only with up to 8 players, so the whole server is your group against the planet.

Off the host's PC

Icarus is heavy on CPU and memory. A server takes that load off whoever used to host.

Pause when empty

The server pauses and returns to the lobby when nobody is on, so the world doesn't burn through days without you.

How to join your Icarus server

  1. 1

Launch Icarus and pick your character in the orbital station.

  2. 2

    Select Join Session.

  3. 3

Switch the toggle in the top right from player hosted to Dedicated Servers.

  4. 4

Find your server by name, join, and enter the password if one is set.

Common problems

Set AdminPassword in ServerSettings.ini. If it's empty, anyone who types /AdminLogin in chat gets admin rights.

The server goes back to the lobby after 5 empty minutes by default. Set ShutdownIfEmptyFor to -1 in ServerSettings.ini if you want the prospect to keep running.

If the server doesn't show up, open Join Session and flip the toggle from player hosted to Dedicated Servers. It's easy to miss.

Leave ResumeProspect on so the server reloads your last prospect after every restart or update.

Server not responding

Make sure the server is online. Servers sleep after 4 days with nobody playing, and anyone with access can start them again from the dashboard in one click.

Use the server address

Do not use localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP from a home hosting guide. Copy the exact address of the server.

No port forwarding or firewall changes

Opening ports on your router is only for hosting a server at home, so there is nothing to change to join this one. If Windows asks whether to let the game through the firewall, choose Allow.

Icarus server hosting, explained

Icarus is RocketWerkz's PvE survival game. You drop from an orbital station onto a planet where terraforming went badly wrong, then gather, craft, build and hunt while chasing exotic matter. Saves are called prospects: timed missions with an extraction clock, or open world outposts that persist. It is strictly co-op with up to eight players per session, so there's no PvP to plan around, only storms, wildlife and your own bad decisions.

Without a dedicated server, a prospect only exists while its owner is hosting. A dedicated server keeps an open world prospect available, so anyone in the group can drop in while the others are offline. It also takes the load off a player's PC, which matters because Icarus is demanding on both CPU and memory. By default the server resumes your last prospect after each restart and players can start new prospects from the lobby.

Our panel sets the server name, query port and auto updates. The rest lives in ServerSettings.ini, which you edit in the file manager: a join password, the admin password, max players, which prospect to load or create at startup, and how long the server waits before pausing an empty world. Admins log in from chat with /AdminLogin. Take a backup before a big game update, since prospect saves are months of your crew's work.

Icarus runs on Unreal Engine and its server grows with the prospect. A fresh world is light, but an open world played for weeks fills up with bases, farms and placed objects, and memory follows. Two or three friends on a new prospect can start on 6 GB. A full crew of eight should be on 8 GB. Long running open worlds with large bases are where 12 GB or more pays for itself.

Common questions

How many players can join an Icarus server?

Eight. ServerSettings.ini accepts a MaxPlayers value from 1 to 8.

How do I find my Icarus dedicated server in game?

Select Join Session from the station, then flip the toggle in the top right from player hosted to Dedicated Servers. Your server shows up there under its name.

What is a prospect?

It's Icarus's word for a save. Missions are timed and end with extraction, while open world prospects persist, which is what most groups run on a dedicated server.

How do I become admin on my Icarus server?

Set AdminPassword in ServerSettings.ini, restart, then type /AdminLogin followed by that password in chat.

How do I put a password on the server?

Set JoinPassword in ServerSettings.ini through the file manager and restart. Leave it empty for an open server.

Why did my server go back to the lobby?

Icarus pauses and returns to the lobby after the server is empty for 5 minutes by default. Change ShutdownIfEmptyFor and ShutdownIfNotJoinedFor in ServerSettings.ini, or set them to -1 to keep the prospect running.

Is there PvP in Icarus?

No. Icarus is a co-op PvE game, so every player on the server is on the same side.

Does the server need to own Icarus?

No. The dedicated server is a free separate build that we install and update. Each player needs their own copy of Icarus.

Is GamezServers affiliated with Icarus?

No. You rent and control your own dedicated Icarus server. GamezServers is not affiliated with the game's developer or publisher.

Can my friends and I split the cost?

Yes. At checkout choose "Me and my friends" and up to 10 people each pay their own share with their own card, on any plan length, from 3 days to a year. It is not a payment plan: nobody pays in parts over time, each friend simply pays their own share. You pay yours, send each friend their link, and the server starts straight away. Each share includes a $1 payment fee.

Can I build a custom plan?

Yes. Every game has a Build your own page: pick any amount of RAM up to 32 GB, any length from 3 days to 1 year, prepaid or a subscription, plus your server type and settings. A custom size costs 15% more per GB than the standard plans next to it.

Can I pay once instead of a subscription?

Yes. Pick Prepaid and pay once for 3 days, 30 days, 6 months or a year. Nothing renews: when the time is up the server pauses and keeps its world for 14 days. Add time or switch to a subscription from your panel any time. Short rentals cost more per day, since every server is set up from scratch.

How fast is setup, really?

Your server starts building the moment Stripe confirms payment. Most are online in under a minute, and the address and login appear on your dashboard automatically.
